Here's where it all fell apart, for the East Bay's Testament. In late 1989, they had built up considerable momentum, with Practice What You Preach. But in order to catch the wave of 1990, their record label pressured them to come out with a new album, and go on tour. Big mistake. Souls Of Black was rushed, sounded sloppy, and disappointed. Certainly, the potential was there. Maybe they should have taken another half-year, to develop the ideas, work out the kinks, and come up with the album they were truly capable of. If you get the album on SHM-CD, yes, the medium is cleaner and more open. But this just reveals what a hurried and muddled mess the music and recording were/are. You listen, look back, and think that, this could have been so much more... -Lummy The Loch Monster |

2nd Note; Testament would bounce back with "Low" |
