As a small child in the 70s, I understood that, at least in my neighborhood (San Francisco's Fillmore), KC and the Sunshine Band were popular and ubiquitous. I loved watching the adults dance to this music. Looked like a lot of fun. Even as "disco" became more synth-based, and turned to "dance music" in the 80s, I never stopped liking KC and the Sunshine Band.

In 2002, I was at a new job. In that post-9/11 depression, people needed a pick-me-upper. Slowly, my coworkers and their friends resumed clubbing and going to dance parties, often hosted by ourselves.

At one such dance party, I'll never forget hearing, for the first time, what turned out to be KC and the Sunshine Band's "When I Close My Eyes." The phat groove caused everyone to put the cups down, draw closer to each other, wrap arms around each other, grind against each other, and snap fingers to the beat.

After the song was over seemingly too soon, my girlfriends went up to the DJ, who graciously showed us that "When I Close My Eyes" was by KC and the Sunshine Band. And it supposedly came out in 2001, so th DJ said it was "old," LOL!

Geez, I thought back to KC and the Sunshine Band's 1970s heyday, and realized that that era was before most of my girlfriends were born!

A year or two later, we would actually attend a KC and the Sunshine Band concert in Las Vegas. Harry Wayne Casey (KC) now had short hair, made a few jokes about the then-current artists, and used a real drummer. Despite not performing "When I Close My Eyes," KC and the Sunshine Band put on a memorable and most enjoyable show.

Nevertheless, with "When I Close My Eyes'" powerful groove, you can still feel your undulating girlfriends' shoulders, hair, hips, and arms on your body.
