Never heard of Ray until I saw the movie Hell or High Water. This song is now included in my "Outlaw Country" mix.

I first heard about Ray nearly ten years ago, when our local NPR station was playing his song Snake Farm. He's one of those earthy sounding players, and he has the ability to me smile with his humor. Like in that video link you posted, where he breaks into Poke Salad Annie for the buttery stripper.

Same thing with the title of his 2005 release Delirium Tremolos. Clever stuff.

"And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, Well, I have really good days" Amen to that.

I just read on his site that he's recovering from a bad case of the Shingles, which I'm told is miserable to have. I took the shot for that last year, so I hope it works. Feel better, Ray!
