Strange album- some amazing big-band cuts, some smooth Q jazzy soul, some tracks that defy categorization! His 1995 theory seeming to be to slam everything together and maybe some delightful fusion cuisine will emerge. As a follow up to the delightful rockin' "Back On The Block" album it only gets that groovy on about every other track. "I'd give it 5, Mr. Clark."

The credits include: LL Cool J, James Moody, Stevie Wonder, Lester Young, Brandy, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, Marlon Brando, Barry White, Chaka Khan, Töne Löc, Queen Latifah, Ray Charles, Patti Austin, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, Gloria Estefan, Charlie Parker, Shaquille O'Neal, Bono, Take 6, Nancy Wilson-- You get the idea-- he's saying that he has the Big Red Phone and can summon up the big, BIG names.

The oddball favorite for me is Original Cast Members of "Stomp" with Melle Mel, Coolio, Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, Shaquille O'Neal (!?) etc. etc. performing "Stomp" with a rap break... quite excellent. That, and "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me" with Joshua Redman on tenor and Phil Collins singin' his gizzard out, for real. Barry White likewise singing way beyond his level, for Quincy. Well worth a listen.
