I know caps can be any tolerance from 5% to20%
..a speaker project rebuild of a crossover..states..
A 55uF..a 56uF
Is commonly found..
Any problem with the 56 if?

.
The trouble with doing nothing, is that you can't tell when you are finished.

Do the math and find the answer, very simple.

If I were rebuilding a crossover? I'd be more cocerned the values on the L/R speakers were matched in some fashion.
Might not even be out of line to measure bare drivers for DCR and whateverelse you can manage.

Very critical. Change values and you screw up the crossover point. Results in a hole in the response or distortion.

Most caps have a tolerance of 20%.....at least that's true of the large PS 'Lytics.

the smaller stuff? 10%? Stilla big range.....espcially if you get a + followed by a - which makes the sides not match....

I see some Clarity caps rated to 3% which means I wouldnt' worry at all....
Is that now common?

I doubt it. have you measured the exact value of old one and the one in the other crossover assuming it stereo. typically the impedance will range from 6 to 24ohms across the audio freq band.

IF the crossover were a brick wall, you may have a 'hole' point.

But with normal slope of such electronics? I'm not TOO worried. As driver 'A' decreases, driver 'B' will be on the up. If done right, they should Sum Flat thru the passband.

That's at tleast the idea behind my panels. LP and HP are not at the same frequency....but cross around 600hz. they are Magnepan 1.6, a 2-way.
The measurmens by stereophile YEARS ago show a flat sum thru the passband...or near enought.

I do the sub crossover the SAME way. Sub crosses at some low frequency 45hz or 50hz with a 24db octave slope. HP to the panel is at 55hz to 60hz with a 12 db octave slow. NO middle gap......Seems to work fine and I did it mainly by EAR with a little bit of just LOOKING at the graphs with the idea of minimizing driver overlap.....
