I have an excellent "hi end" tuner from the '80s. Some time ago, I upgraded the audio ICs to LF353N. Any thoughts on upgrading to Burson Audio V5i. Regards !!

Not exactly an answer to your question but the dual fet OPA2132 is an excellent sounding device, the best IMO out of at least 6 I tried, some highly recommended by others. A very significant upgrade from OPA2134 and OPA2704. The 2132 stopped me from looking further.

If it's in the substitution list, I think you will be surprised at how good the substitution would be.

There are a bunch of op amps out there, and I may try a few more, but the Burson's are big bucks, and quite possibly worth it, too.

An inmate just sold me one and I am very grateful. It opened my eyes. Now I need some more!

I find it provides substantial body towards the tonality of images, with a more solid soundstage presentation, more meat on the bones. Spatial cues are natural sounding, but not as expanded as others have reported. YMMV. What I appreciate most, is that while the V5i is not a fully discrete design, it does provide more meat on the bones vs. a few other op-amps I've experienced. Worth the high-end price point, if it delivers the goods within any given system, IMO.

When I read about this 'super performing' op-amp or that 'super performing' op-amp -- remember what your source material comes from... Almost everything between the 1960s' through early 1990's (just for example) was processed with a DolbyA or DolbySR for noise reduction -- very nice. However, take a look at those designs, and see the two transistor feedback GP amplifier designs in the DolbyA, or the LF411 op-amps in the DolbySR. More than likely, much of the material that people listen to with 'pristine' admittedly near-perfect equipment have already been messed up by things like a two transistor feedback amplifier with a gain of 10 (e.g. DolbyA), JFET (or worse, diode) gain control, and LF411 opamps -- also with JFET gain control. (The JFET has two problems -- tweakiness and capacitance between the gate and drain/source, which causes little glitches to be added to the audio given the gate being used to control the VCR resistance.)
I am not meaning to totally poo-poo the use of items like the fantastic TI or whomevers op-amps (they are definitely works of art if utilized correctly), but much material is already sullied by just 'average' quality electronics. :-).

Not all applications are happy with Burson's. Check with them to see if it's right for your application. Personally I'd try the opa2134 first or the opa1642 with brown dog adapters.
