BLUF: I replaced all of my Tidal MQA albums with Qobuz sourced albums. I had a bunch of Tidal MQA albums in my Roon Library that will soon be inaccessible as I downgraded from Tidal HiFi Plus to Tidal HiFi. At one time MQA came standard with a Tidal subscription that had at least CD quality - they were bundled. Tidal recently unbundled the service so one can subscribe to CD quality without MQA. This is Tidal HiFi. I played with MQA and it was fun watching the MQA LED light up on the DAC but I wasn't impressed with the MQA smoke and mirrors. In other words I had MQA capability but didn't need or want it. The reason I had so many Tidal albums in my Library is because Tidal was available in the US way before Qobuz came on the scene here. But after having both for a while now I'll be adding to my Library primarily from Qobuz. I'm keeping Tidal HiFi (CD quality but no MQA) since it's only $6/mo with the veterans discount. Library Maintenance Tasks: - Search within Roon for "MQA" albums in my Library. It immediately finds all of the MQA encoded albums. - Roon created a list of all MQA albums that I printed out. - Tag and delete all MQA albums from the Roon Library. This took a whole few seconds to complete with a press of a button. - Use Roon to search Qobuz for the same albums I just deleted and add them to the Library. This took longer but not bad. Each time I found the album I would add it to the Library. So my Tidal MQA albums are now replaced by the same albums sourced from Qobuz sans-MQA. Sorted in order that the Qobuz sourced albums were added: |
