This machine has 4 Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C compatible) ports.

For users: What hub do you use to connect hard drive, CD/DVD drive, etc for music and HDMI video?

There's one called "Hyper Drive", but QC seems to be awful. Many bad reports on the net.

With my MacBook Pro I have been using the Apple Thunderbolt-to-whatever adapters to connect hard drives, my SuperDrive, and/or the big screen via HDMI. A Staples USB-C hub provides three USB2 ports for optional keyboard, mouse, and portable drive(s) for backups.

Still waiting for the new Thundebolt3 docks (and their reviews)...

Cerebrate!

I don't have a recent Mac with USB-C but I would use the adapters below until USB-C docks & hubs have been out for a while. Most of these are still using an older chipset vs the Mac and may not be fully compatible. In the mean time:

The first adapter shown includes HDMI and standard USB. The second one is just USB-C to USB.

There are a few USB-C docks and hubs out there but be careful. I'd probably wait for the next generation. You can Google search on "USB-C Dock for Mac" or "USB-C hub for Mac" and read the user reviews.

If you visit the link below, search on Adapters.

I use the OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock for my 2016 iMac. It has worked great for me. As you mention, Thunderbolt 3 docks are also available. The thing I like about using the Thunderbolt 2 dock I have is that sometimes I unexpectedly need an extra port that I wouldn't ordinarily have, and with the dock, those extra ports are already right there!

There are additional ports around the side and/or in front too

That looks nice. Maybe I'll take Abe's advice for a short-term solution. I am also looking at external USB C SSD hard drives for my Itunes music. I have 4 TB3 ports, so no problem. I'd love to see a USB C CD/DVD reader, as I still buy RedBook CDs.

I think that's a wise solution until TB3/USB C hubs get the bugs worked out.
