Tidal just released an updated version of it's desktop app. On my Macbook Pro going in to a PS Audio PWD II, it will put out an extremely loud white noise digital hash type output which could damage speakers if the volume is set too high. I had to stop using exclusive access in order to get music to play again. Anytime I enable exclusive access mode, I only get digital noise. Old version of Tidal worked fine.

I just started a trial subscription to Tidal last week and so far it's doing a great job in my setup.

I might try the Tidal update on another computer just to see how it does with my DAC, and leave the main system alone with the old version.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Currently running Version 2.1.5.228 (W: 2.2.1--7) (NP: 2.3.26)

Dare I ask if there is a newer one?

I was using the same as yours and checked to see if updates were available - it automatically downloaded the latest. OOps.

OTOH, Don't find a problem using desktop player in office, but then it just uses server's sound card. I primarily stream using Tidal plug in to LMS.

as I feared that would happen.

Mostly stream TIDAL using LMS except on the main system where I go directly for the Mac Mini to a USB DAC.

Have yet to compare a ripped CD with same album as a MQA Master decoded in the TIDAL player and sent to the same DAC.

Will be interesting but don't currently have a CD that TIDAL has up as a MQA Master. If I have to BUY a CD it has to be something I want to own.

"About Tidal" reports,2.1.6.245 for me

I went to "Check for Updates" and it reported that I am up to date.

But I'm on Mac so the Tidal player release versions might be slightly different for different OS's.

No issues here... it all works.

So far, no problems...

Enjoying Hifi for sure. :)

I am also on version 2.1.6.245. Using a Macbook Pro with OS X El Capitan ver 10.11.6.

Still cant use "Use Exclusive Mode" in Tidal on the PS AudioUSB 2.0 Audio Out setting. I tried changing all sorts of settings on my DAC, but nothing made a difference. All I get is an EXTREMELY loud hash noise. With "Use Exclusive Mode" not checked, it works fine. Hmmm.....maybe my DAC has some issue with the new software?

The problem you described didn't rear it's ugly head until I went into Tidal > Settings > Streaming > Sound Output > Wyred4Sound USB Audio Out.

I've been using the Wyred4Sound uLink USB to SPDIF converter all along and Exclusive mode was set and working fine even after seeing that I am on the latest release of the Tidal player.

Not until I started poking around within the Settings screens did the loud static occur. Only after disabling Exclusive Mode did the static go away. Hmm.

Oh well, at least it is some Tidal bug and not my DAC. I hope your volume was not too high when that noise occured? Hopefully Tidal will address this, until then I just am not using exclusive access.

TD,

Make sure you don't have the volume option set to full in the settings for the device.

I have been using the new Tidal for about a month now. As it now works MQA with the DragonFly (also released today as a firmware update). I have really not seen any specific problems with volume and I have been using it on my (non MQA) dacs as well.

Thanks,
Gordon

Hey Gordon
Many people here respect you as a designer of great audiophile equipment. Do you feel MQA is doing something positive

Ridiculous question. He has a vested economic interest in it now with the DragonFly "MQA Ready".

I deliberately turned the Volume way down before experimenting. Thanks for the warning.

We just proved that it's not your DAC as I am having the same issue with Tidal on a different DAC setup.

Although it's not a show stopper for me I hope they fix the problem.

Help me understand how Gordon Rankin could possibly have any less credibility when discussing MQA than you?

I knew you would be too retarded to understand what a conflict of interest is.

Credibility? That is a farce.

This is a designer who for years bad mouthed DSD then added DSD decoding to his DACs when sales tanked.

He railed against ethernet streaming saying it was never going to work.

Move along jelly belly.

Thanks. I trued messing with volume settings and it had no effect (accept the noise was louder or more quiet). Tidal has a switch that bypasses its own volume (allowing full volume signal to be controlled by external preamp). Enabled or disabled had no effect on the noise.

The problem with noise and Tidal's "Use Exclusive Mode" remained despite whatever fix or setting I tried.....but today I updated to Mac OS Sierra.

It works fine now, Exclusive Mode enabled in the Tidal player sounds good!
