On December 31st , we launched our current campaign to financially resource the 2017 Asylum operations, as well as upgrades that will allow the Asylum to remain technologically relevant (please see original appeal, below) .

Today, our responsive project is on track though it was delayed a bit. As you may have noticed, providing secure connections became a priority affecting our development schedule and finances. We purchased most of the required SSL certificates and made the changes to the code base though we still have a bit more to do before we can get back to our original plan.

Our goal was to generate enough support to kick-off our funding drive for the 2017 calendar year and to catch up on our on-going deficit since investing in preliminary actions, all necessary to prepare for the massive software project this year.

While we continue to provide a great venue for people to learn and share, the bills continue to mount, as well. That's why our goal for phase one of the campaign was to raise $12,000 by January 31. To date, we're at $5,710 ... a bit less than half of the target. We really need your support in order to hit the mark.

There are lots of ways to get there, but we're pretty sure you don't want to:
  • bake goods to sell in Asylum hallways

    • so, instead, why not gift what you would have spent on the ingredients? $15 would do the trick!

  • walk, run, or swim in any activity that has the word "thon" in it

    • consider sending the money you would have spent on the "free" t-shirt you would have earned. $25 sounds about right. Right?

  • attend a fancy ball

    • save the time and money otherwise wasted on shopping for that spiffy new outfit and send what you would have spent. $75. At least!

  • see us beg, on all of the forums, until...

    • pledge today and we will forget your name (other than a quick thank you post) for at least one year. $100 sounds like a reasonable number!

Of course, we will accept any amount that sounds right to you. While big gifts are great, the simple reality is that if every inmate who used the Asylum's resources yesterday chipped in $5 or $10 or $20, we'd quickly hit our goal. So, if nothing else, please consider a gift to express your appreciation for having nothing to sell, buy or do other than click here: Become a Contributor.

If you would be willing to help, you will be a part of making it possible for the Asylum to move forward in 2017 with confidence. With adequate funding to support the software project and needed contractors, we can commit to moving forward.

HERE IS THE CONTENT OF THE ORIGINAL APPEAL

Thanks to our intellectually-gifted, practically-minded, and financially-generous inmates, the Asylum has grown to be a valuable resource to audiophiles all around the globe.

Since March 1999, literally 7,954,757 posts have been made as of noon today. As these posts are archived, an amazing reservoir of knowledge has been collected and stored for the current and future needs of audiophiles around the World. The 'Brain Trust' of the Asylum is truly amazing! Thank you all for your contributions.

Managing this enterprise is no walk in the park. On a typical day, 22,000 to 24,000 people visit the site looking at up to 1.25 million pages of information. While we've made many improvements over the years in terms of software and hardware upgrades, our job is not done and we have an ambitious plan for next year.

As many of you know, the transition from using computers to surf the net to phone and tablets has accelerated. Our site has always been friendlier than many, but it's not a fully responsive site for mobile users. Soon, it will be. Over the past month, we hired expert consultants to help in this endeavor. An initial prototype has been developed and we're in the process of integration, which is no small task.

That's why we need your help. We intend to have a beta version the forums and posting applications done over the next few weeks. Then, we'll ask for your feedback. God knows, we don't want an Orange Monday revolt!

However, moving the forums to a mobile, responsive platform will be just the beginning. We expect that it will take at 6 months and perhaps as long as a year to fully complete this task for all the various apps.

And that's why we launched our current Campaign.

UPDATE
Our goal was to generate enough support to kick-off our funding drive for the 2017 calendar year and to catch up on our on-going deficit since investing in preliminary actions, all necessary to prepare for the massive software project this year.

You see, even though we continue to provide a great place for people to learn and share, the bills continue to mount, as well. That's why our goal for phase one of the campaign was to raise $12,000 by January 31.

To date, we're at $5,710. A bit less than half of the goal.

Update on Contributor gifts: We should be fully up to data with shipments. However, if by chance, we owe you a gift from a contribution prior to February 2017 and you haven't received it, let me know.
