from Switzerland!

Anyone knew how long it takes to get stuff from HiFiBerry?

For $25 in shipping (insured) I would expect AIR rather than SEA.

In the mean time, I have inmate 'Bullethead's' Meridian Explorerer 2 here and can say without fear of serious contradiction that, IF you are a tidal subscriber and IF and UNLESS you have a 'over the moon' quality DAC already, that this little MQA capable DAC is OK and is worth the couple hundred it costs.

BUT not until TIDAL get a bit more of its catalog encoded with MQA. Right now, based on the limited catalog, it just ain't worth it. Especially for the Classical Music lover who does not particularly love Hebert von Karajan. :-)

I ordered a DAC+ from them about two months ago. It took 7 or 8 days to arrive. Not bad!

Just ordered the same an hour ago. I am holding off on the Wyred 4 Sound mod and see how this works out.

If (BIG IF) I can get everything I currently stream over the internet (QOBUZ, TIDAL, SPOTIFY(if they go lossless FLAC), etc.

Then it's just a simple matter of putting my current iTunes library on a NAS drive and I'm done as every room of the house has a RJ45 somewhere on a wall.

One thing with the Raspberry Pi, it's only 10/100 ethernet, not gigabit.

But for Lossless FLAC, no problem.

The it's just a simple matter to add units in every room PLUS, if I REALLY like the idea, perhaps upgrade to uRendu for the main system leaving all of the other rooms Raspberry Pi/HiFiBerry units.

Much cheaper than a house full of SONOS Connects upgraded by Wire4Sound.

I am putting my iTunes on a NAS in the next day or so and we will see. I am just doing the NAS and Spotify. I just received a Meridian Director last week and cant wait to see how she sounds. Have an iFi Micro DSD but it is just too fiddly and for some reason will not function as a stand alone DAC. I am sure that I will be bugging you and a few others for help getting this thing up and running. My son says that the BPi is the hackers favorite!

but hope to learn as I go.

Just getting up the courage to try to figure out how to load LMS on an iMac will be my first step.

We'll see.

Batman, who used to be more of a regular at Inmate Asylum recommended Volumio as a download to run the RP. I am studying on this as well.

Unit arrived quite quickly.

Then I realized I needed another week to order the micro USB to round power connector for my LPS/battery. :)

Got an email fromm Hifiberry saying that delivery would take 1-2 weeks. Just enough time to read up on all the installation FAQ's.

Alright Bill,

We are entering a new realm in our quest for perfect playback. I hope your reading skills are better than mine.

was a SS Sherwood from Pacific Stereo... Quadraflex speakers? No, I went with something smaller and cheaper. ;-)

I moved on from there.

The HiFiBerry bundle is a shade over $100. I've got cables I don't use anymore that cost more than that, but it's a start, and that includes the latest model Raspberry Pi. If I can get all this to work, and figure out how to get LMS up on my network and all my streaming services going, upgrades are easy. And if it all works as I hope, a uRendu in the main system is also a possibility. Who knows?

John Swenson is a long time acquaintance (met him at VSAC over a decade ago when his focus was more on tubes) in the local DIY community here in Northern California. He's a great guy, and has done a great service to the computer audiophile community with the uRendu. It would be great to have a product in my system has his finger-prints on it.

As long as you're not commercial you'll be a great guy.

As soon as u become commercial you're facing conflicts
of interest.

I do consider all his products much too expensive.

It's the:

"SOtM sMS-200 Mini Network Player and SOtM mBPS-d2s Intelligent Battery Power Supply!"

$450 of the 'Player' plus $450 for the 'Battery Power Supply' and don't forget that 'sliver DC cable' for an extra $100, because everyone knows silver is better that copper for DC cables. ;-)

Cool $1K and I haven't checked out the return policy, which might be an important consideration for some folks. ;-)

The Rpi with Hifi Berry will work fine. I have 6 of them. E-stat said the Urendu is marginally better.....

I actually made money selling my SBTs and buying Rpis...... Don't worry there will be something better in 6 months....

I don't throw money at Audio any more. It's a bottomless pit..... I enjoy my system immensely because I have Horns and SET amps :-)

Enjoy your "friendships".

You have a problem with an audio hobbyist having friends in the sector?

In your strange little world, is it ethically improper for music critics to have musicians or even (shock, horror) recording engineers as friends, for literary critics to know writers and publishers and so on? Should they cut their "trade" friends off when they get a job? Who's to pick the moment? You?

Me? I think Ivan's fortunate in his friends.

"Friends" and "friends" - there are differences.

Some people are collecting them like trophies.
Some people are kind of worshiping them.
Some people try to elevate themselves by having (and talking about) this or that "friend"
Some people don't realize that they might be used by this or that "friend".
...

Fair enough.

U know. Sometimes less is more.
I'm quite happy in "my strange little world"'- with a few "real" friends.

Enjoy.

Mine has cleared customs in NYC at USPS. The Swiss Post tracking number converts to USPS. Hopefully we will have before the weekend.
