here we go, lossless spotify :)

guessing FLAC with an ogg wrapper!

I'll give this one a whirl too, right now I have to fall back to Google Music when music is not available on Deezer Elite, I would prefer to fallback to another service that is lossless. Great news!

and sounds as good as QUBUZ and TIDAL, I'd go in for something less that $20.

But as that is pretty much the going rate and Spotify has better market position than Deezer or even TIDAL, why would they offer it for less $$$?

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass

I used Spotify for quite a while before recently switching to Tidal HiFi. Like most people, I think, I prefer the basic Spotify experience: it's easier to navigate, and it includes more material that interests me. So, I'd switch (back) to Spotify HiFi for sure.

And this is so even though Spotify sort of "hid" (meaning buried) their student discount from me for years, whereas Tidal was much more forthcoming with it. (This is a significant 50% discount for both services.)

I'm also intrigued by free offers for, and discounts on, vinyl -- which are suggested by the screen grabs in that Verge article. I think it would be super-fun to relive the record club glory days of my youth ;)

I too tried Tidal and prefer Spotify by a wide margin. Much more of the music I like and like you said easier to navigate.

If they can offer lossless for less than their competitors it would be a death blow, esp to Tidal. Spotify has so many subscribers they can approach this like Walmart approached retail sale. Undercut price based on volume.
