I bought them last week to drive my 96dB-sensitive Serenity Super-7s after experiencing the S7s again after one of my Quad 2905s failed.. Since they were already in my system driving the Quads, I used the 140-Watt M-160s to drive the S7s to evaluate them and convinced myself that all-triode valves with NO output transformers is again THE WAY TO GO for me. These '60s are III.3 versions with V-Caps and the powersupply upgrade. Fortunately (for me and my aural preferences) they arrived with 18 Winged-C 6H13Cs but also with all-Chinese 6SN7s.. After installing my last 2 pairs of Tung-Sol oval-plate 6SN7GTs in the Voltage-gain positions, BRIMAR curved-gray-plate CV1988s in the rear-center (cascode-bottom) positions, and a Chinese 'N7 in the cathode-follower position, I bias-draw matched 8 pairs of 6H13Cs. The amps sound quite good and will continue to improve as they break-in driving the S7s. Then to complicate matters further, Thursday the 21st I ordered a new pair of Sanders 10e hybrid e'stat speakers that have begun arriving today--ONE of five cartons!--and will drive the panels of those with the A-S 140-Watt M-1s.. I imagine the 10es and 140s will sound better than the S7s and A-S 60s, but we'll see. BTW I have a new pair of PS Audio M700s to drive the bass boxes of the 10es; I've already sold my M1200s to my buddy. More later; time to open a carton. |
I was curious about that too but apparently it works alright according to Jeffery nt, posted on July 29, 2022 at 10:01:34 | |
