I need to get this OTL amp fixed due to problems with cracked soldering. Any other upgrades you would suggest, while its in for repair? The Audiotailor Jade is a small headphone OTL amp, I use it mainly to feed my desktop speakers, with excellent results. In fact it was this small system that made me invest in OTL ampification in my main rig. More info on the Jade - see headfi.org.

It looks like a bunch of old electrolytic caps can be replaced with newer electrolytics. The Metal Oxide resistors could be replaced with Mills wirewounds.

Alternatively, it would take 5 minutes to touch up the solder connections on the tube sockets and be done with it. It is literally and almost free fix. Otherwise you have to disassemble the entire unit to get to the other side of the circuit board.

Hi Chip647, thanks. I haven't opened my Jade, but I guess the cracked solder is on the other side (top side) of the board. Thats what happened a few years ago. The repair shop said they couldnt fix it, but I asked them to dissasemble (wasnt so hard) and take a look at the top side. There, the problem was easy to find, and fix. Thanks also for your suggestion to replace the caps and use Mills wirewounds instead of metal oxide resistors. I see if I can find someone to do it (living in Oslo, Norway). I'm not so steady with the solder iron. Are you happy with the sound of your unit?
