Saw an ad in Jazz Times for the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder series
reissues (24 bit remasters). In addition to Something Else,
there are the following;
Horace Silver - Blowin' the Blues Away
Sonny Rollins - Volume 2
Art Blakey - Moanin
Hank Mobley - soul Station
Dexter Gordon - Go
Eric Dolphy - 0ut to Lunch

There are others - I think these are the creme de la creme. Further
info at www.bluenote.com. I listened again last night to Something
Else and found it quite good. I will be buying more in this series.

I'll be buying a couple for my wife this summer, I'll be curious to hear how you find the rest of the series. Thanks...

I would *not* wait until this summer to buy titles in this
series. This is a limited edition and will likely be gone
by summer. Get' em now. BTW, 6 more titles being issued
on March 23, and 6 more on April 6. Dont wait. Get 'em
now. Otherwise you will probably have to buy gold or import
versions at $25 - $30 per each to get decent versions.

For those of your who have bought the Blue NOte RVG series discs, can you comment on the sound quality. I already own many of the cds in the series, but wondering if the new remasters were worth the price...

Thanks

To me they sound very comparable to the Super Bit Mapped reissues (Connoisseur Series) they have been putting out for some time. Generally much more "open" than the "normal" CD versions, although I feel that the highs are sometimes a little too hot...still, if you like the music you will love this series.
