99% oof the time, when I hear a Beatles cover, my first reaction is "Why?" And so, I was taken by surprise to find these effective covers from a relative unknown -- a ukelele specialist and jazz historian named Casey Macgill. These are fresh, highly engaging interpretations which totally justify themselves. YOU CAN'T DO THAT is rendered as a kind of what, St. Louis blues number? I FEEL FINE is strummed infectiuosly on strings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e98CjcANN-Y https://thebeatlescompleteonukulele.bandcamp.com/track/i-feel-fine-casey-macgill Anyway, givem a try, if you are curious. I wonder if anyone else will see value in them, or if I'm out in left field. I wish Macgill would do more of these. But he has apparently taken more of a decided 30's jazz turn. |
Their first couple of albums are gold. nt, posted on July 24, 2020 at 09:51:33 | |
