99% oof the time, when I hear a Beatles cover, my first reaction is "Why?"

And so, I was taken by surprise to find these effective covers from a relative unknown -- a ukelele specialist and jazz historian named Casey Macgill.

These are fresh, highly engaging interpretations which totally justify themselves.

YOU CAN'T DO THAT is rendered as a kind of what, St. Louis blues number?

I FEEL FINE is strummed infectiuosly on strings.

Anyway, givem a try, if you are curious. I wonder if anyone else will see value in them, or if I'm out in left field.

I wish Macgill would do more of these. But he has apparently taken more of a decided 30's jazz turn.

Absolutely beautiful harmonies, talented musicianship, and original tunes.

I'll check them out. I guess via YOUTUBE, right?

Guilty YOUTUBE pleasures:

The Mona Lisa Twins (one is named Mona, the other Lisa)
Josh Turner

Fine musicians and a fresh take on some of the F4's old classics, which remain among my very favorites.

Their first couple of albums are gold. nt, posted on July 24, 2020 at 09:51:33

Never heard the Deep Purple cover. Tasty.

This is one of the earliest Beatles covers I remember, from 1970, by Spooky Tooth:
