So with each Bond movie comes a new Bond theme that people rant or rave about.

Billie's new song seems to fit the Craig era Bond quite well. Quite the opposite of the big Bassey belts - although I liked those.

on the other hand she CAN'T sing worth a damn! When I see her, she and her vibe remind me of Bjork... another artist that I ALWAYS felt was over-rated and lacking talent... Kudos though IF she wrote the song... they just should have let someone with a voice sing it!

Well she makes a choice I think to sing in this whispering quality.

I think other songs can show off her vocals a little better. She does stay in pitch - I don't think she has much power but then this is an amplified music world and so most singers don't seem to need it. Adele is sort of an example who is sort of the Kenny G of female singers - play his 5 notes perfectly and stay within what you can handle. And it can sell millions.

I also think she is more of a visual artist with vocal support - The Bond franchise clearly chose her to get more butts in the 007 seats riding her popularity and bring some youths to the movie.

I think this will show Billie's vocals at her best with her song co-writing brother. I think she shows good control here and show off considerably more air and power than some of the other things she's done. Apparently sick as a dog at the Oscars and still did it ok.

I remember a lot of people hated Lady Gaga until she went on Howard Stern and sang Edge of Glory and then people said - "oh she actually can sing"

Not my rankings - esquire editors

I'd still rank Goldfinger 1st and Nobody Does it Better second. Interestingly these were arguably the best Bond movies for Sean Connery and Roger Moore respectively as well. I was never a big fan of Live and Let Die - and I always think it's more because people are fans of Paul McCartney than it is really about the quality of that song. Billie Eilish did very well with these editors.

I agree - I would have placed that top 5.

If I had to rank the top ones it would be as of now could change tomorrow
1) Goldfinger
2) Nobody Does it Better
3) License to kill
4) Diamonds are Forever
5) For Your Eyes Only
6) You Only Live twice
7) No Time to Die

I haven't cared for the others enough to bother

Hopefully the film is better than that song..., posted on February 20, 2020 at 20:09:00

MUCH better.

I'm not familiar with her and hearing that is likely NOT going to change that.

I think it's amusing that they ranked a song which has not been released or the movie... The music business is certainly fickled... THAT is for SURE! I DO however (with the exception of Eilish) agree with most of that list though I do think that Adele's, Tom Jones, Duran Duran and Madonna's Bond songs should rank higher on the list.. For me it is hard to separate the song from the movie and how much I like that movie.. For instance I LOVE Casino Royale.. and I loved the intro opening sequence graphics but the song itself was weak! Of course Live and Let Die is my VERY favorite Bond film mostly because as a teen boy I fell in love with the beautiful (still to this day) Jane Seymour! Sir Paul just added a stand-out song as the theme. Having said that, Roger Moore was NOT my favorite Bond... That belongs to Pierce Brosnan... just my opinion of course...

while I could care less about her music, there is ABSOLUTELY no denying that the girl CAN sing! Billie Eilish, not so much....

That's fair - I noted in another thread that people of a certain generation are used to "standard" singers or as I call them the power ballad belters.

So a Shirley Bassey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston are quite a different kind of vocalist as apposed to say a SIA, Ellie Goulding and Billie Eilish.

So I enjoy seeing what professional vocal coaches think about the non "standard singers" to see why some of them like singers like Billie Eilish and what strengths these singers possess.

I have listened to Billie a few times now and I get that she is a very good singer in fact - she is NOT however the kind of singer that fans of ballad belters will like.

This vocal coach explains her vocals - there are about a dozen other professional singers who have similar evaluations.

Yoko Ono is a great singer too... Either way... Eilish is as I said before, in the vain of Bjork another yesterday's "freak show".... NOT my cup of tea! And yes I DO like Celine and Whitney... Bassey not so much.. I suppose next you'll try to convince me that Bob Dylan is a great singer... LOL!

Talking of Kenny G, I once had a dentist who played smooth jazz in his surgery. I thought of all the possibilities of music you could play but then realized it was a master stroke because no pain he inflicted would be worse.

I feel Billie (we are all on first name basis now) sings like all those soft Jazz singers whose music is played by speaker reviewers on YouTube. To me Whitney Houston is the greatest female singer who should have sung a few Bond songs also. Pity.

I feel that singers like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion are more than a bit underrated by audiophiles like they're too embarrassed to play them at a show so instead we get Diana Krall and various classic Jazz singers so others won't make fun of you - it's "safe" to always play Ella Fitzgerald.

I like all kinds of singers in all kinds of genres but not everyone is like me - so that's fine.

And who know maybe the next Bond film will hire the next closest thing to Whitney Houston working today.

It's killer sad that Whitney's idiot boyfriend got her hooked on hard drugs. It amazes me that people who seemingly have it all get into drugs. I mean you have more money than you could count and can travel anywhere, buy anything. You think they could find a way to be happy with that.

I would have to rank "Thunderball" first, "Goldfinger" second, and everything else third.

I would rank Live and Let Die near the bottom along with the wonderful performance by Sheriff JW Pepper.

The Billie Eilish theme isn't far behind.

Love B.E., and they (I like to think of her as a band with her brother) brought honor to the Bond theme song tradition. They absolutely nailed it.

I think Billie sings like all soft jazz singers. To me, Whitney Houston is the greatest female singer, and she should sing a few Bond songs. She has always been an amazing woman and singer.
