Gohmert's idea was shot down by theoretical astrophysicist Katie Mack. She suggested two "equally distressing possibilities" explained Gohmert's question.

If the congressman believes the Forest Service or BLM could possibly move the orbits of Earth or the moon, "he does not understand how orbits work," Mack tweeted.

Or, Mack suggested Gohmert was being sarcastic, suggesting fighting climate change is as impossible as changing those orbits.

scientifically ignorant statements, generally with no contemporary indication of facetiousness.
I'm going with guilt by association on this one, right or wrong. But likely right- he fits perfectly into the pattern.

Guess the Jewish space lasers, ammonia injections, dinosaurs being lower in the fossil records because they are heavier, and the pyramids' meant to be used as grain silos all require some translator to 'suggest' that the idiocy was actually clever.

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is raising some eyebrows...

"My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize," Johnson said. Willard paused and replied, "We don't anticipate that."

Everybody knows the folk at the Forest Service would be stumped by such a question.

He needs to ask at the Space Force department.

Fighting global warming is futile.
But Congressman Louie is a useless eater in DC. He's only there to provide theater. He's never attached his name to anything constructive and never will.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

Well Rod, Gohmert is in fact now saying that he was kidding. He, IMO, sure gave no sign of it in his questioning and I think he is lying. According to Facts First he initially did not respond to a CNN request for clarification. Some believe it is his attempt to deny human causality for global warming.

...ad blocker didn't work but the suggestion reminded me of disabling "Java script" function which did work. At any rate, after reading the article I now understand references to Gomer Pyle. As I opined elsewhere, this reinforces the idea that the quality of western leadership is in a steep decline.

...it seems that Gomer was attempting to discredit the concept of man-made climate change by resorting to a false equivalency and general absurdism. A political agenda if there ever was one. Comes off as pretty stupid. As a now departed AM talk radio host used to admonish some of his callers: "Folks, don't try this at home". Gomer exemplifies the decline of the quality of western leadership.

it was inspired by his misunderstanding that BLM stood for Black Lives Matter.

At least that's what it appeared to be based on a tweet from one of his staffers.

These things are not usually so difficult to decode - an honest media source would at least make an attempt to do so instead of misrepresenting the comments.

It's up to the reader to view various takes on the story in order to get the whole story.
