Hyper-realistic or super realistic arts. These are the kinds of artworks that the art critics frowned upon. Because to them, they don't represent the true form of fine arts, but illustrations devoid of human thought-provoking response. But yet they hold Chuck Close and Richard Estes arts in high regards go figure.

These kinds of art forms do require a lot of patience time and effort to create. Just the skin tone alone can take hundreds of hours just to get the contrast right and then there are still skin pores to worry about afterward.

I'm sure Jackson Pollock would rather spend his time and effort mixing the paint and pouring it on the large canvasses on the floor rather than being cooped up in an art easel.

It would be interesting to see how close a portrait photographer could get to these painted images.
Critics may denigrate some hyper realistic pieces, but I think there is more "art" than meets the eye in these works.

That said, showing ugliness in ultra-high def isn't by itself "art."

Here's an excerpt of the criticism of hyperrealism art...

"It's popular with the masses, especially those that don't buy art, because it is so superficially easy to understand: " It looks like a picture". The standard of excellence in realism compared to that of a photo. It requires no imagination or understanding, just admiration of technical skill and patience. Most people are intellectually lazy; this fits the bill: reward without effort."

For what it's worth as a practicing realist artist myself I do admire the skillset of artists who practices hyperrealistic art.
