Was using the cheap Shimano Mickey Mouse thumb shifters. Mostly plastic but what do you expect for ten bucks new?
Upgraded to NOS vintage Shimano Deore DX. MIJ when MIJ still meant something.

Had a set of these on a Diamondback Ascent years ago, they're terrific. A few grams heavier than Deore XT, the steel bottom plate can bend but on the other hand I've seen XT shifters for sale with cracked aluminum bottom plates.
As usual, the rear was easy to set up. The front not so much. Seven speeds in the back, only three in the front, too. Baffling.
Shakedown cruise Friday, hopefully.

Put a short throw shifter in the car not long after I got it. Not enough leverage for the clunky GM shift linkage. It's sitting in a box on the shelf collecting dust. The original shifter is back in the car.

I have the cheap plastic Alivio shifters on one bike and they shit me how the crappy windows fog and craze over. Useless. I like your new/old ones, except - but I have 1 qn -
Are they push-click or push-push? They look like push-push.

Rear shifter, push to shift up, front shifter, push to shift down. Pull to go in the opposite direction.
The rear shifter will operate as a friction shifter or indexed. There's a lever on there.
I bought a Diamondback Ascent new circa 1990. It had Deore LX components, including the early Shimano trigger shifters that I hated. Installed a drop bar with bar end shifters (a gravel bike 30 years ahead of the curve), then went back to the flat bar but replaced the LX shifters with the same Deore DX thumb shifters pictured in my post. Loved them.
I never liked the bike though, it just didn't fit me. Ended up donating it to charity in order to make room, but I should have kept the shifters.

One place where trickle-down is a real thing.

I had 2015 Deore on my Santa Cruz which were excellent. The new bike's got the latest and there's a major improvement especially down-shifting under load. And I'm a load!

but I'm not sure I'd want Tourney or Alivio. A lot of plastic.

Be advised there are 3 levels of Deore, 4100, 5100, 6100. Mine has 5100.

even Deore LX was better than the 200GS components on my GT.
But, the 200GS components are head and shoulders better than the Microshift on my daughter's Trek or the Shimano Tourney on my son-in-law's Specialized.
