And here it is at home.
And me drinking it.
And it's not bad!

instead of drinking water. Water was known to be unsafe to drink in olden time urbanized areas, though they knew not why. Fermenting destroys harmful bacteria, has some nourishment, is cheap and easy to produce. I was friended a fascinating book on the impact on history of beer, wine, spirits, cola, coffee, and tea--- a fascinating read and a must for history buffs.

""The guys who built the pyramids were paid in beer and bread," Standage added. "It was the defining drink of Egypt and Mesopotamia. Everybody drank it. Today it's the drink of the working man, and it was then as well.""

When I was in Scotland, I saw this on draught and thought it rather amusing.

I don't drink beer, but keep it in the house for friends. When I go the packy and stand in front of that garage sized cooler I am mystified.

Back in high school and college choosing a beer was a heck of a lot easier. Not nearly as many choices.

Becks if I was rollin' in dough, Rolling Rock if it was an average week and Schmidts if I was broke.

Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

But I likely would not have taken the chance on that one. First off, I have an aversion to beer in cans. I'll drink it, but only if there's no bottles around. Secondly, like you, the graphics and slogan I don't find particularly inviting either. Thirdly, it's goddamn IPA.

I've had it past my eyeballs with all this hoopla over IPAs. An occasional English IPA is fine, but I don't fancy carbonated grapefruit juice ... especially not in a can. Maybe that one is different, but virtually all the American IPAs that are all the rage use Cascade Range hops from our Pacific Northwest. Their citrus flavor I find overpowering to the point it doesn't even taste like beer.

I wish more brewers of IPA would STOP.

Shelves are full of the stuff to the expense of more......worthy brews. Bought a Pilsner a few weeks ago which is pretty nice.

Branch Out and try something new......An Imperial Stout? A Wit? Any of a bunch of Czech Lagers? Or even a Porter? A local brewer may still be making a Smoked Porter....NICE......

More recyclable and squash down into our bins.
And, safer to transport and store for longer periods.
Not that they stay around long in my house!

It is actually really good.
Hoppy, but not crazy hoppy, and smooth.

Is buy again regardless of the silly graphics!

We worked it by the colours of the labels back in the day.
Red was Tooheys Red (Duh!)
Green was Victoria Bitter (still green).
Blue was Foster's (Fuck that shit :-()
Yellow was XXXX ( Still yellow).

Of you were completely tanked, but still had a couple of dollars, you only needed to indicate the colour and you were good to keep on drinking ;-)

There is a dark ale here in Canada by Upper Canada brewery, and it has become my go-to lately. It is very refreshing, not what you might think from a dark ale. Not overly expensive either, but life is too short to drink cheap crappy beer.

We are locked-down here because of the pandemic, so I save money drinking my own beer instead of going to the pub and drinking theirs. I am getting my first vaccine dose this afternoon, and I will be buying a case after I get my shot.

Pitcher of IPA = $32 the other night. I can't imagine doing more to help than that. nt, posted on April 21, 2021 at 07:07:43

Me, too, especially outdoors. Dale's Pale Ale is my go-to for backyard grillin'.

there's a Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale up here in the north woods too!

and of course ... the obligatory band bearing the name

"Up here in the north woods"

Whereabouts? I'm in northern WI, and I had just about concluded that there wasn't any interest in anything other than fishing, hunting, and drinking within 200 miles of here.

"If you've got the time, we've got the beer..."

"I don't always drink beer, but when I do, ..."

"This Bud's for you."

"The beer that made Milwaukee famous."

"Blatz is Milwaukee's finest beer."

I'm from Wisconsin, so I oughta know.

Depending on ingredient list, a 'dark ale' MIGHT be either a Stout (real dark) or a less-dark PORTER.

If the brewer eschews a 'style name', so much the better and just enjoy it for what it IS.....Not for what they SAY it is....

Buddy brewed up some Scotch Ale and it was Magnificent. I took a taste and handed my carkeys to the wife. I knew it could end ugly......
Nice cloudy and heavily yeasted brew of very high alcohol content....

One of those on draft with a slice of orange on top is good once in awhile.

I'm more into English and Scottish ales. A particular favorite is Old Speckled Hen. An absolutely delicious brown ale.

Partial to wheat beers and white ales too. Julius Ector's dunkel is good stuff another favorite

Yeah. If I wanted to drink grapefuit juice, I' drink grapefruit juice.

Although, there is one IPA I like. Can't remember the name at the moment. I had it at a restaurant about a year ago, and I told the waitress that I didn't want grapefruit juice. I'll try to think of it.

Also, if you ever go to Little Rock, Arkansas, there's a restaurant/micro-brewery called "Lost Forty". Good stuff.
