It's not great, it's not pretty, it doesn't have any cachet, but it works. It's comfortable, it's durable, it's been knocking around my family for 30 years, and it was free. Fits me like an old shoe. Bought better (vintage MIJ Shimano Deore DX) shifters and rear derailleur that I'll install at some point this summer, also a set of Conti gravel tires. For the record, the bike is a 1989 GT mountain bike. Mountain bikes from the 1980's were the original adventure bikes. You could ride them on any surface. They had steel frames that would last forever. They were lugged for racks, front and rear. You can take them bike packing. Besides, looking at bikes available this year, seems like some manufacturers raised prices and cheapened the groupsets. I'm not paying $1300 for a bike with a plastic rear derailleur. Uh, uh. The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message. |

There's nothing wrong with keeping old bikes if they fit you ;-) And, as discussed previously, early generation MTBs are as hip as hell these days. Maybe a purple metallic respray and some retro decals? Trying to hide from entropy John K |
It's teal. Can't get more retro than that. nt, posted on March 8, 2021 at 14:03:53 | |
