I have a pair of folded-horn speaker cabinets designed for 8" full-range drivers and I'm considering re-building them with different (and hopefully better) drivers.

Anyone tried these Decwares ?

I had the Decware HDTs and they were very good for a modestly priced speaker. Very lively and relatively neutral. I just could not make peace with the high frequencies as I haven't heard a single driver/whizzer cone type driver that I could live with the highs. Some people seem to be able to live with it or hear what is wrong but I do and so it stops me from staying with them.

Just as with any speaker enclosure you can't pop in any random driver, you must software model the enclosure with the intended driver to see if it's compatible. In this case you'd use HornResp for modeling. That said, paying $445 for an eight inch driver is absurd, especially with a horn loaded enclosure.

It seems you are the only one here who is constantly adding facts and good engineering sense to the discussions. Much appreciated.

I agree about the exorbitant pricing of "exotic" drivers that purport to have magical properties!

All driver parameters are published or can be measured. Either way it's a know quantity that can be modeled very accurately.

All of my Hornresp models, whether full horn, tapped horn, bass reflex, or sealed cabs have worked right the first time as expected without any wasted sawdust or lumber..

It's still voice coils, thin cones, magnets, etc. all variations of the basics!
