Just wondering if it's less than 8 ft. because it requires some EQ on the custom Sub Amp that comes with it.

You mean the height?

length of horn, its folded internally. given the size (over 5' high) guessing it has to be at least 12 ft long

Mine is 68 inches. Not including the wheels.

OK, so I want the PHYSICAL LENGTH of the HORN including the folds and exit port, not the height of the cabinet. I own it and a tape measure, so that is not the answer I'm looking for.

Just wondering if the good Dr. told anyone what the Length and type is (Hypex?). I'm guessing 8 ft. since it needs a boost in the Sub Amp that comes with it.

If it's were 12 feet long, it would NOT need EQ Boost.

Not necessarily. To have flat or even close to flat response to the Fc as defined by the path length requires sufficient mouth area.

Hmm. Maybe the it's a beast of a different breed......my Danley TH-50 Tapped horn gets down to 23 Hz. and has a small mouth vs. the Edgar Seismic, which fires down into the concrete floor with an opening on all 3 sides for a much larger mouth, yet needs boost.

Both are uniquely different designs to move air, aye?

You can trade off broadband sensitivity to get flatter response to lower frequencies. I do that with my Table Tuba and Tuba HT designs. I don't with my pro-sound subs, where extension is secondary to sensitivity.

You can reverse-guesstimate it from the volume of the back chamber of the 18" driver with: 45/Vb, where Vb is the square root of the box volume, and the result is an approximation of the resonant frequency of the box in Hz. This box is there to provide a resonance to counteract the reactance annulling effect of the mass in the air in the horn adding resistance to the driver near the horn low cut off. Back in the early oughties I helped move a Seismic in and out of the Chicago Audio Society meet where Bruce showed the Titan rig, but I don't recall the make or model number of the driver (anyone?), but sometimes manufacturers will supply the physical displacement of the driver as a whole which should be subtracted from the Vb. With the above mentioned result in Hz you can figure the approximate length of the horn following from where the horn low cut off is without the EQ added. A horn is most efficient when the length of the horn is equal to 1/2 of the wavelength at the lowest frequency target, so 13500/f will give that frequency in inches when divided by 2, but as the horn is assumed to be in a at least a wall position you can divide the result by 4, and if the horn is in a corner position you can divide the result 8. Or just play around with it on Hornresp. As I recall the top box section where the driver is located lifted off the bottom section where it joined at the horn throat, and if yours is like this you should be able to look at the beginning of the horn folding at least by removing the box.

As a side note, one of the most anticipated Chicago Horn Club meets from about that time was scheduled to have a shoot out with that Seismic subwoofer competing with one of Tom Danley's Tapped Horn subs, and club prez Tom Brennan's dual JBL 4648 Cinema subs (with a total of 4 15" woofers). Unfortunately it got cancelled because Tom had to work.

Below 80 Hz. and assuming Power Amps were "whatever is needed," the Danley TH-50 would have easily won.

I cross at 40 Hz. for HT. My subs are OThorn Left front and TH-50 on Right Front. They couple together at the fequency, but Danley is about 3 db less sensitive and trades it for about a 10 Hz. lower cutoff.

The Plane Crash from "Flight of the Phoenix" Blue Ray will scare strangers running at reference levels. But they still work great in the same setup when I flip a switch to 2.2 (for music) from full Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 (for movies) , soon to be 7.3.4.

Meanwhile the Edgar Titan II combo is my "junk" setup in the basement as 2.1, soon be 2.2, as I have 2 more tapped horns in the works for and one BT-7 ready to go in eh rear.

The OT horn will go to my studio.

Agreed. Love The Edgarhorn midrange, but Danley science is impeccable-nT, posted on October 26, 2021 at 13:44:03
