I am looking for the best cone mid drivers I can get to run from 200hz to 1.5k
They will be crossed over to four ten inch ribbons per side.
I am using JA8008-HMQ at present but am looking for an upgrade. Maybe 5-6 inch drivers, not ceramic. 95db plus would be nice.

Thanx

This linked Supravox comes with a massive Alnico magnet.
8" versions get very pricey, yet have in my experience
a lovely sound.

Have a look at the B&C range of 6". The go to for many when the JBL 2012's became unobtanium.

Lowthers have great midrange and should be considered. You are paying a premium for the whizzer though that you would not be using.

After reviewing many posts for the best drivers for the 2000 to 8000 hz range, ribbons are not at the top of the list as they lack dynamics and have high distortion. Ribbons are favored for >8000 hz.

I assume you are using multiples. The SEAS paper nextel 4 1/2" W12CY003 is a beautiful driver(check the SEAS web site for curves). But it is costly and the Troels Gravesen modified version is even nicer(and even more expensive.

The Supravox 165GMF is a damn good driver. 6.5 inches and 96db. Flat up to around 7Khz and can even do bass.

Oh and the Supravox 215-2000 is killer (I use this one), 99db and runs from 40Hz (in appropriate cabinet) to 18Khz!

How about the 5-inch Audax ? The specs look good - has anyone here heard it?

What is it about the JA8008-HMQ you would like to improve? nt., posted on December 14, 2020 at 19:48:16

Getting 4 pairs in Oz is difficult and expensive.
Also 8 inch is already beaming by 1k so I thought something slightly smaller would be more suitable.

Thanx
