The high voltage has most likely come from the mains, and the result is a very loud brrrrr from the two LF speakers. The voice coils doesn't move quite freely. Which components in the electronics in the 200W amp are most likely to be damaged? What to look for?

Thanks, Johnny.

Could you describe the sound you're hearing and which drivers are affected? Did it start during a lightning storm or are you assuming lightning cause it?

I ask because one of my AG subs developed a slight "scratching" noise as if the speaker's coil was in contact with the magnet that surrounds it. It was really only noticeable with certain tracks but was repeatable.

If this sounds anything like your noise, I can let you know how I cured it with technical help from Avantgarde and the UK distributor. Good service for a 2003 Uno! Peter

The lightening/voltage discharge caused the damage, no doubt about that. During a terrible thunderstorm, a very strong BRRRRRRR came from the 2nd floor where the speakers are. My wife disconnected it from the mains and it was quiet. When I came home I reconnected it to the mains and the same terrible noise came back until I disconnected it after seconds. When I pushed the speaker cones I could feel a slight scratching. Both LF speakers are damaged, and so is the amplifier. Must leave this to an Avantgarde authorized workshop. How did you cure it?

Johnny.

My very slight scratching noise had developed over quite a while. My speakers had also developed a nasty thump when turned on or off. So 2 faults that I thought would need quite a bit of work. However after describing the problems in detail to Padood (UK Distributor) and sending them photos of parts of the amplifier for identification, they consulted AG who said I needed to add one small resistor to each amp and to adjust 2 trim pots to the recommended voltages.

This was done for less than a quid and the problems were resolved. I fear your problems may be more costly. Good luck - I hope all goes well. Have you removed all cables apart from power cable to double check the problem isn't from somewhere else?

I'll have my modified (see link) 2006 Duos for sale soon when my new Duo XDs arrive, hopefully in a week or two. Peter
