Dr Christian Heil landmark HF line array waveguide has been out of patent protection since 2012. Does anyone know if its being produced and sold by anybody?

https://www.google.com/patents/US5163167

Lots of people. You can get some less expensive versions at parts express.

My feeling is why not buy the Original from ESS? Imitations are not necessarily an improvement or cheapers.

ESS in California have 3 versions now, from about $319 on down.

I own 6 of the originals myself. It's tough to find a better tweeter that goes down to 1 Khz, or even 800 with a high slope network, active or passive.

Thanks but its not the tweet it´s a waveguide for a comp driver see patent. It started the linear array pandemic and it´s used by L Acoustics in their line arrays.

Your referenced link is not the patent application nor the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office document. It's Google's (or other organization's) summary/interpretation.

A link to the actual patent would be excellent.

And, yes, it's for a "waveguide", not the transducer.

:)

The picture does remind me of the Beyma driver in the link.

Hello Dave

The Beyma´s external appearance is similar but the internals are diferent. The Heil waveguide is the only one that converts the circular output of a compression driver into a true planar wavefront for linear array use. All others Aproximate a true flat wavefront up to certain freqs. Surprisingly althought out of patent x 5 years it appears to be not yet mass produced !!!
