perhaps you can find a knowledgeable re-coner who could tell if there's any existing basket/motor for this part to work well

Thats interesting for a project but to make a commercial speaker you can´t do that. It´s far too expensive to make a basket, center iron , magnet , coil suspension etc.
I´ve been looking to drivers like SEAS Prestige MCA15RCY. There is something on the sound of 5.5" drivers that´s appealing to me. Not that 755 is a 5.5 but is regarded for it´s sound. The Seas is still a bit expensive. I need a driver to put with a 18" woofer on an open baffle.
Any ideas?

You might want to take a look at the Audio Nirvana Classic alnico speakers. I am using their 15 inch classic to great effect in my system. And the prices are hard to beat. The website is over the top, but the speakers are excellent.

Based on spec + these measurements, the Altec 755A is an 8" ~95dB driver that is fairly flat to 10kHz.

Based on this info, the Supravox 215-RTF is an 8" that does the same range with the same sensitivity, but is a bit flatter.

here's a good Six inch fullrange which isn't expensive

I don't like my stamped frame Nirvana8's much - one problem is their suspension goop stiffens and raised fs a half octave from the low 40's
to the mid 60's - that in turn raises qts.

turpentine ? my old stamped frame Super8 fs went from ~41Hz to the mid 60's. One poster at Diyaudio said the suspension goop dries and that turpentine will restore things. (for how long?)

once made available both electro and AlNiCo magnet versions, but I can't seem to find them using search engines any more. That does not speak well for continuity of supply, back-up service etc.

If they were readily available, I'd consider them for a project.

Supravox probably is a good solution, similar to B200. Maybe i didn´t explain myself good. I´m looking to a type of sound not as detailed as a full range driver but more to the full body/dynamic type of sound like Electrovoice VMR drivers. Morel doesn´t have the DB/w to match with the 18" driver that i have. No whizzers here!!!! maybe a horn as super Twitter.

Line Magnetic was headed by two brothers. I was informed by LM dealer in Hong Kong that the Brother that handled the classic side of the company (WE remakes) recently passed away. So this may impact some things for a time.

Sorry to hear about the passing of another audio artisan.

I'd like to try a moderate-sized single driver system - the LM755 was one option.

Warm regards,

Hartley might still be in business. They had a 10" fullrange, a 220 MSG, iirc.

Good luck,

David

Sorry to hear of this loss to the community. I'm sure we all wish the family well.

Doing something like that is a dream job for me. I hope they continue.
