I am new to streaming, so this may be a stupid question.
My Oppo 105D has a USB DAC. It also permits connection with optical and coax for external digital sources. I recently bought a Bluesound Node 2i, and have connected it to the Oppo with coax. Will all three connection options access the DAC? Also, this is a highly modified 105. Will streamed music, having been processed by the Oppo DAC, take advantege of all of the mods the same way as CD/SACD?

Any source that comes out of the analog outputs of the Oppo has taken full advantage of its DACs. In fact, there is no special "USB DAC;" it is just a USB input for the internal DAC used for all sources.

Definitely recommended - the only reason not use the 105 as a DAC is if you've got a 205.

Or, if you have any other DAC! I own the 105 and I prefer any other DAC than the one in my 105. I'm currently using a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge as an external DAC for my 105, but I've used a number of other DACs previously and they all sound better than the internal DAC in my Oppo BDP-105D.

Best regards,
John Elison

Guess this is why I don't "stream." Can't understand a word of this!

The question really has nothing to do with streaming. (NT), posted on February 11, 2021 at 09:50:48

The big advantage of the Oppos is that they can provide a multichannel output via HDMI. Very few "other" DACs can do that.

I didn't know *&(^ either, but it was worth it for Qobuz, seriously! nt, posted on March 10, 2021 at 15:32:15

Why would they? HDMI is digital and if any "DAC" output digital, it would not be a DAC.
