I see that Rostropovich / Richter's recording of the Beethoven cello sonatas has been released on SACD, by Universal Japan. It is an analog recording, converted to SHM-SACD, which are usually of a very high standard, especially since 2011 when they started going direct to DSD from analog tapes with Emil Berliner Studios, if I recall correctly.

I know this is a fabulous performance --- but I was wondering if anyone has heard the SACD version, and how it compares to the stock standard CD release - before I plonk my money down :)

I think there have been at least a couple of CD incarnations, posted on May 14, 2017 at 09:15:00

I haven't heard the SHM-SACD, but there seems to have been at least one remastering (24/96, downsampled to 16/44.1) just on the CD platform:

I've got the latter, and I think it's fine - but of course there might still be more to be extracted from those master tapes - LOL!. For SACD, have you heard the Wispelway/Lazic album on Channel Classics? Also pretty fabulous IMHO.
