...in the review hopper here.

First off, Sony Music is releasing Murray Perahia, "Bach: Goldberg Variations." This is a recent (March 2000) recording; the disc ancestry is 24-bit PCM -> DSD (single layer SACD).

DMP is releasing two new SACDs:

Bob Mintzer Big Band, "Homage to Count Basie" (recorded May 2000); disc ancestry is "live to DSD" (hybrid SACD), with both stereo and multi-channel iterations. Like the upcoming Virgin Records SACD release of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells," the multi-channel is specifically noted as a "4 channel, left front, right front, left surround, right sound" mix. "This recording does not use a center or LFE (.1) channel."

Vivino Brothers, "Blues Band" (recorded April 2000); disc ancestry is "live to DSD" (hybrid SACD), stereo and multi-channel. Mastered by Bob Ludwig of Gateway Mastering and Tom Jung. Once again, the multi-channel is a 4-channel array as listed immediately above.

I haven't had a chance to listen to these yet...will comment on them by the weekend.

I sez:

"...4 channel, left front, right front, left surround, right sound..."

Make that "left surround, right surround"....

...but I just finished spending all of last week in advanced Linux training/testing. I haven't had a chance to catch much of a breath since...had a fine audio gathering in Beaverton yesterday...and lots of loose details to catch up on today.

Will report just as soon as I've had a chance to give the new Perahia a spin!
