I just got a dvd player and am very confused by all the sound settings. Normaly these things wouldnt confuse me but man they really load it on. First off I have the option for either 96khz or 48 khz output, does my system support 96khz? (I guess it does cause it sounds okay). components: Acurus A250, CAL CL-10, Rotel RC995, and magnepan MMG's (which make much better HT speakers than music in my opinion). I dont understand, what kind of system wouldnt be able to handle 46khz? Also theres the choice of Dolby Digital or PCM output, whats the difference there? Furthermore is it okay to run Dolby DTS 5.1 on a 2 channel system?

You would think the manual would answer these questions, but trust me it doesnt.

all info and comments are appreciated.
Thank You

Which DVD player you got?

I assume the 48k/96k output is refering to the PCM digital out while playing some audio DVDs. You need to have a DAC or receiver that can handle 96kHz to take the advantages. For DD and PCM output, again, you need to have a DD decoder(AV Receiver) which has AC3 decording. If you only connect to a 2 channel system without a AC3 decoder, set everything to PCM out! You can run a dts 5.1 on a 2 channel, either connect the analogue output of your DVD player to the amp, or the digital out (PCM only) to your DAC if you have one.
