After playing SACDs when I put a regualr CD in it recognises this and swictes to CD and then just spins until it finnaly gives up and says no disc. I can then open the door an reclose the door. I do not touch the disc. Then it plays just find. It does this 90% maybe 99% of the time. It never does this when going back to SACDs. Any advice? Not a big deal but I it didn't use to do this.

I had this exact problem with my original unit, and it would also occassionaly freeze with a regular cd which played fine everywhere else. My dealer replaced the unit, and I've had no similar problems with 500+ hours.

I have not had any problems on my Sony SCD-777ES (knock on wood) after approx 200 hours. I will keep a look out? Did you dealer give you any indication what caused this problem?

I'm not sure if my problem was identical -- but the error was the same:

My 777 would occasionally let out a pretty impressive clunk -- whether playing or just on. Then, one day, playing a disc, it suddenly froze and produced a mysterious error code (which I no longer remember).

After that, it would spin a new disc, it would load, and spin, and then report that there was no disc.

It was back at Sony for 5 weeks -- they apparently replaced an integrated circuit somewhere -- and it seems to be ok.

I have not noticed any problems with my SCD-777ES. How long have you had your unit? Are you using any power conditioners that change voltage/frequency? Does it do this when manually selecting CD mode? Regards, HiFi Guy.

I've had it over three months. I've discovered it doesn't do this if I close the door first and then push play instead of just putting on the dish and pushing play. Maybe I was suppose to close the door first anyway but I didn't use to have too. This is not something I would be willing to be without my player very long for and I sure don't want a new one that has to be broken in again. It's still a little wierd though.

Interesting. Mine works either way. Pushing play causes the door to close, then the disc loads, then playback starts. Does it do this when you select SACD, load disc & push play? HiFi Guy.

No just going from SACD to CD it always works going to SACD from CD even if I just hit play.
