I'm not sure whether it is for new musicians or new music.

Example: I just got You are the Quarry by Morrissey. This is classic Morrissey, it is "hip" and it is definitely "pop". But since Morrissey dates back to the 80s, should he be discussed in "hip pop" or "rock"?

And my latest addition from the dependable Rough Guide series, Rough Guide to Morocco. This is "pop" and, IMO, it is "hip". This is popular music, but with the distinct influence of the trance music that Brian Jones recorded and released many years ago.

But I don't know if that belongs here either.

The word 'hip' is rarely used by anyone I know who is into new and emerging rock music. It sounds like an old guy trying to regain his former coolness.

....and therefore never wnated to come in. Then today I was wondering why do they get a forum...is there really that much interest in hiphop on AA???

Maybe call it the Aternative Music Forum. I dont know. Hip Pop sounds just like Hiphop...duh. I've Never heard of anyone use the term 'Hip Pop'. It sounds like a geezer came up with the name.

Yup...naming is tough, I'm open to suggestion, posted on July 9, 2004 at 18:44:03

We ran with a name that was suggested, but it get's read wrong.

The idea is new music, current stuff. Not classic, rehashed rock, not jazz, but stuff on the radio and stuff on my kid's cdp.

What should we call this?

It's the name of a store, too, but I don't think they'll mind. Or, maybe you can give them a call and promote the site through them, give a link from the board...They'll put up flyers, the whole site will be flooded with new blood...World peace will ensue.

I like this. Simple. Until today (while reading about Massive Attack in another thread, I had always quickly read Hip Pop as Hip Hop and I kept thinking...why is there a thread dedicated to this stuff? Heh, now I know what is really going on.

Music on the Street is nother name that could work

It's tough to find a name that isn't a genre or a mini genre, posted on July 16, 2004 at 21:25:54

You could call it Mod Tunes, - but then the "Mod" for modern would get associated with the Mods of the Quadraphenia Who era...

Something like "New Sounds from above and underground," might work....

I don't know...

As I mentioned to TA in another post, - I thought that this board was about Britney and American Idol.... (I also should've thought harder though, - knowing that you wouldn't make a forum that limited).

Cheers Rod,
Is this the real me, or a mere facsimile?

You seem to be saying that you want a forum for music that's new, with the music's age being the only criteria for inclusion. But the posts so far have mostly been about music that's outside the mainstream, and I therefore assumed that such music is what this forum was intended to be for. Personally, I don't want a forum for "new" music, I want a forum for interesting music, whether that music is from an Americana folk singer from 30 years ago or an acid house/jungle DJ from yesterday.
