I am fraught with poor health, it is affecting my ability to function. I am really weak, have a hard time walking. My eyesight is going to hell.

Next month falls on my 61st Bday, that will be the day.

I will keep the bench together, and maybe then it is my own experimentation etc. Maybe.

I should liquidate my parts, but then really I could become a local place to get them, we have none. I can operate in the basement and practically no overhead.

I dunno, I actually got two students that should advance. One is obsessed with measuring capacitance watching a meter go up to 63.7%. Actually he has the technique quite refined, but it is time to move on. Both of them need to get into transistors.

Just finished six months of chemo myself and now they want to do a marrow transplant, so I can relate to how depressed you are.

I enjoy your writings and hope you can continue.

Regards, Craig

Lame joke. Sorry, man.
Anyway, I've got five years on you and even though I'm in terrific health, my eyesight is also going.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

Hang in there. Don't give up. I've also been battling a debilitating disease with no cure. Up and down days but actually my interest in music and just listening to my system and doing little tweaks here and there are enormously satisfying within the parameters of what I can do. So keep at it as long as you can. It ain't over until...

A lens implant is like having new eyes.

Too bad they can't do the same for hearing, however.

See if this helps.
I lost my ability to work more then 25 years ago.
What helped me deal with what nature did to me was to
always keep in mind that as bad as you feel/get.
There is always somebody worse, sometimes way worse the you.
Hang in there.

Sometimes work seems frustrating, but is actually important. It keeps your mind occupied with things that you enjoy and are good at.

I went through a 1 year patch with multiple major abdominal surgeries. As soon as I could, I started working on an amp repair project. Gave me something satisfying to focus on outside of the pain and recovery issues (dragged around a wound-vac for well over half a year).

A friend had a parasailing incident where he partially shattered his spine. Miraculously able to walk with a titanium cage in there, but in great pain always (think constant big opioids). He needed to take his mind off the pain, and took up woodworking. Produced some really stunning projects, and when he is working he is distracted from other things.

Perhaps you should only close doors for a short period to see if you are lured back to work. Once the stuff is gone, your choices are reduced.

Good luck. Coming up on 67 myself.....

Thanks for all the well wishes.

I might actually do something, dunno what but...

I am not unhappy though close to death. I have lived a unique life. I have had an interesting one. Not bad despite maybe what the Chinese tin aboit living in interesting times. I have had real cars when they were real cars, I mean shook the ground. I got a ticket for flying a car, I swear I never thought they would have an ordinance against that. Beside, what's wrong with it if you are headed the right direction ?

One eye gets a shot every 3-4 months (wet macular degeneration) while the other one just slowly goes bad (dry macular degeneration) with nothing except vitamins (anti-oxidants) which slows the process by about 10%.

If I live long enough, I will become legally blind.

While each eye is 20:40+ I'm still correctable to 20:30 using both eyes simultaneously, as the degeneration is in a bit different part of the field of view in each eye.

New Mexico tests eyes for driving every year after age 75 but tests both eyes simultaneously.

As an audiophile, I'd rather be blind than deaf.

My scrip is getting a bit long in tooth.
I'm not going blind, but I started building model cars again recently and that's when I notice that I have a harder time seeing fine detail than I did 30 years ago.

Physically I think I am ok. Mentally I am not.
I work in Emergency room, I am so burnt out, angry and stressed.
For over 25 years, I normally can detach myself from work but 18 months of pandemic, I have lost that ability. I have trouble sleeping, irritable, feel like on edge all the time.
I haven't turn on my system for at least 8 months, I am getting counseling through workplace health department.

Anyway I hope you can crack through it, find your way to enjoy life.

You are still young by my measuring stick. I retired at 68 and I'm 73. You should still have some time to figure things out and time to do what you want. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I'm reading books, paddling my canoe and fishing. Get a hobby other than audio. It helps to diversify.
