I am looking for a relatively inexpensive 5 shelf metal rack. From top to bottom, it would hold turntable, HD radio tuner, disc player, amp, open. It must have casters in case it has to be moved on carpeted floor. If you can post pictures and mention vendor, I would appreciate it. TIA

Something like this? If you have small feet on your equipment you might need to add something to cover the wire mesh on the shelves because for a component some of the feet may sit in the "holes" and other feet may sit on the wire of the shelf.

Never thought of it as an equipment rack. We have 2 in our laundry room/pantry - one is a 4'x2'x6' storage and the other configured as 4'x2'x7' laundry work station.

We also have two brown units - one in the kitchen between our fridge/freezer that holds a steamer/2ndmicrowave combo underneath a butcher block countertop with shelves on top from which we have some cast iron cookware hanging. And then one in my workspace, a 3ft by 3ft by about 12 inch shelving unit where I store my in/out box for lps on one shelf and store compilation records from my collection on the bottom.

We also have a couple of those in closets around the house but only the ones above are the heavy duty type configured with wheels.

I'm about to finish a conversion of a 3 shelf, 36" long unit of that style of shelving (I think Metro was the original name). I've cut out three pieces of 18mm baltic birch to the shelf size with quarter circle cutouts for the posts. I then glued four 1.25" strips of 1/4" thick neoprene to the bottoms of each shelf to dampen the wire. (think wetsuit or mousepad material). Rather than use casters, at least for now, I'll use screw leveling feet with the square hvac damping blocks under them. The blocks are like the Mapleshade pads that mostly used a cork middle layer. Looking forward to putting it into use within a week.

Does the rack need to have metal shelves? How about a standard 5-tier audio rack from Pangea, Monoprice or Sanus? If you can't find a rack that has wheels, you could place any rack on carpet slide disks, which are available in various sizes and work almost as easily as wheels in letting you move the rack.

But if wheels are a must, maybe this rack would work:

Make sure whatever you buy will be sturdy enough for a turntable. I bought two very handsome stands with metal frames and glass shelves, but when I assembled one of them I decided it wasn't sufficiently sturdy for a turntable. I'll find another use for that stand; second one still in unopened carton. The turntables are now on a very rigid stand modified with large locking casters.

I would recommend these over the rubber/cork ones. They are cheap enough you could try both and listen to what sounds best to you.

They STINK!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a bunch years ago for use indoors, but I only use them in the garage.
There is no way I would bring them inside.

Those are exactly what I have. (I've used about 30 of them over the years).
The smell goes away, and I've never had a comment from a family member.
