given his... life style.

He helped produce some good music a long time ago.

Otherwise?....

I'm 63 and for the most part Phil Spector was a celebrity that got lots of press. Not to diminish his accomplishments which seem extensive just to note his celebrity always seemed bigger than life. Whether this was something he wanted or something unwantedly bestowed upon him by those wishing to further their own hip credentials is unknown to me. R.I.P.

Yet another covid tragedy.

I'm not sweeping his bad points under the musical carpet, it's just that he did more to advance the role of record producer than any other (in an era when songs on an album were truly curated and singles were meticulously crafted, not just crammed on like today), and his mystique was palpable before the truth of the way he treated talent became known. That's even before his studio gunplay was a thing.

I'm not sure I ever listened to any of his music, (unless it was by accident).

And supposedly a reasonably good one who played on several of his early productions.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

I wonder if Phil said "Rest in Piece" to Lana Clarkson when he killed her.
He was a pig and a killer.

your wife can't die. The husband is always the prime suspect. Watch a few episodes of Dateline. It's always the husband.

Granted I didn't follow the trial. He probably did it. It's ALWAYS the husband.

Was his death ruled an Ankancide?

Maybe he meant Paul Anka. They were playing My Way when DT flew out.

His early '60s "little symphonies for the kids" worked when the singers had strong enough voices to cut through, or ride atop, the lush orchestrations.

"River Deep Mountain High" is actually a pretty good album, because Tina Turner has the power to cut through. And it's got some great songs.

At the other extreme, Lenny Cohen's "Death of a Ladies' Man" is an unlistenable mess, and hands-down the worst Cohen album ever. Lenny's weak baritone gets totally drowned in the arrangements. George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" likewise suffers from over-orchestration. Would have been a better record minus the big production, with just Bonnie & Delaney & Friends as the backing band.

I saw that he had died but I guess I had not paid attention enough to his circumstances to understand he was in prison
