I just got a YBA Complete CD player, it has a Sony drive and if I open the CD drawer it opens just fine and stays open, but if I use the close button it closes and reopens right away, and cycles like that until I power down.
Has anyone encountered this issue and if so how did you fix it?

I just got a YBA Complete which uses a Sony drive. I can push the door open button and it opens and stays open, but if I push it to close the door it closes and reopens and cycles like that until I power down.
Has anyone had that problem? If so how did you resolve it?

I use a DVD player as a transport, and when I press open the tray opens and then immediately closes. Sort of the opposite of what your problem is. I would like to know what causes my problem as well.

I have the same issue with the same unit-
though mine had a progression of failure-
would not open if the tray was empty-
easy enough - always leave a disk in the tray...
now no close, no play...
I have alternates - but I did like that unit...
I have cleaned -
It is happier w/ out the lid on...
but that does not work for me...
Happy Listening

I fixed it by throwing away the machine and getting a new one. The cost of having the old one repaired was more than the cost of a new player.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

Things do wear out, especially mechanical things. Could be a broken part, or one that has worn beyond spec, or a defective sensor, control, latch or switch, etc. Typically that means the whole drive unit needs to be replaced. The one thing I could think of that might be a simple fix is if the eject button is stuck. You might be able to unstick it by cleaning that area with isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip or such.

When it opens and closes right away, or vice versa that means it is not all the way open or closed or that he mech is not reporting that it is to the uProcessor.

There is usually one little belt in them for the slide, that can cause it. Also if one of the limit switches gets bent out of shape.

The mechanism is not all that complex but what can be is getting the slide off, and more importantly back in and "timed". It has to be on a certain tooth of the gear or it doesn't work. Also fully closed also means closing the mech itself to clamp the disk, not just that it is flush with the front panel.

If it happens after moving it, look especially for little pieces of plastic in the mech, like there is a cam gear of sorts with a slot in it. Get one little piece in there and it can't finish even though it looks like it did.

I have fixed a couple of CD player problems by unplugging the unit for a couple of minutes and plugging it back in. Note this is different than using the on off button. I was advised by a dealer to do this with an old Arcam unit. I was advised by Ayer to do this for my Ayer unit. I have done this twice with the Ayer- no call needed for the second fix.

That is the first question you need to ask yourself.

A man that had horses that kept giving him problems in 1915 needed to ask himself the same questions.
****************************************************************************
"At the turn of the nineteenth century, there were 21 million horses in the U.S. and only about 4,000 automobiles. By 1915, the carriage industry had been decisively overtaken by the automobile industry, but as late as 1935, there were still about 3,000 buggies manufactured each year for use in rural areas."

This happens on Xbox/360 drives. 10 times out of 10 the problem is that the belt is slipping too much to pull the optical pickup block/ spin motor tray into position, the drive controller realizes that it is taking to long to finish pulling the disc in so it gives up and ejects the disc.

A temporary fix/diagnostic would be to push the tray in as hard is you can which will give it a running start and improve the chances of the drive being able to pull the reading mechanism into position.

A semi permanent fix is to take the drive apart, clean the belt and pulleys with something like Windex and Q-Tips. If the belt is too stretched out you may have to replace the belt.

A longer lasting solution would be to find a CD ROM drive that uses gears instead of a belt to work the tray if replacing it is an option.

The permanent solution is to use a source with no moving parts to wear out and break down over time.

Did you try unplugging to reboot?
