This is sad to hear. I couldn't find any details on google. Albert was a great designer. I had his VR-4s. A friend has them now and they still sound great.

So sad. I have some earlier versions of his VR series the Clearfield Continentals that he did when he worked at Counterpoint back in the early 90s. I was getting ready to audition some of his VR-33s which look to be a newer version of the Continentals. I always heard good things about Albert and his speakers. I was really looking forward to meeting him.

I still have VR1's, had VR3's and VR4's that were updated with the '4.5 mod.'

Over the years Albert worked various places in San Diego County, first with Counterpoint and later with his own speaker company. That may have influenced his willingness to return with some frequency to present his latest speakers to our local audio club.

So in spite of having chatted with him a bit, each time briefly and at lengthy intervals, I was quite amazed the last time when he greeted me by name. I said, "Albert, you meet lots of folks in the course of your work, how could you remember my name?"

He just smiled and replied, "I have to be a good salesman as well as an engineer."

Peace be with you Albert.

In 1996 I was on the fence about buying a pair of VR4s. I went to Hi-Fi 96 in Manhattan and Albert was there showing a pair of the VR4 Silvers. He was a gracious host and quite a gentleman. After that demo I went home and ordered a pair. At that time he was very accessible and if you called the factory it's a good chance that he would pick up the phone.

Godspeed Albert.

My condolences to his family. Meet him once, very nice gentleman.
Have his VR-3.5's and LCR-15 in my HT room.

Gotta say? Properly positioned, I could get that sub to blend about perfectly with either my B&W N805s, or my Soundlabs.

So sad to hear.
I bought his bottom of the line speakers about 8-10 years ago.
When I called, Albert answered the phone and took my order.
He spent far more time than I expected, like I was buying his top of the line. Wanted to know every little detail about my system.

On a second call I was asking about bi-amping and he spent 45 minutes explaining in great detail how not to spend mega bucks on bi-wiring and how to make my own.
When I bought the TAS book on speakers, he offered to to sign it if I mailed it to him.
He went one step farther and got Robert Harley's autograph also.
He even mailed it back on his dime.

The audio community is much much smaller because of his passing.

What a great man.

Was one of the most neutral and linear speaker designs I've ever encountered...... I've owned the "VR-4.5 Mod 5" (an upgraded version of the VR-4) for almost 20 years.......

RIP Albert.

His creations.. I've known Albert going back to the early 90's. I got started with alberts VR-3's when he was up in NY state.. Then one day I got a call from him telling me to sell the VR-3's and try these VR-4's.. Those were great sounding speakers at a great price.. He used a sock instead of veneers and focused on the sound.. Had felt lined compartment for the mid tweet and other little tricks.. He used office glue on the cheap foam drivers to make them last..
I then owned the VR-6's and finally the VR-7's which I owned for 18 years before I downsized.. I enjoyed all his speakers but the VR-7's were very special.. they were difficult to get right.. but Albert was always helpful and entertaining when called upon..
R.I.P Albert.. and thanks for all the Great music you let me experience..
Albert was in a band called the Ravens which opened for some popular bands back in the 70's..
