 First, the bad news. Our house underwent six months of renovation. We have just returned home and we've learned that we acquired too many things over the years - things we use or need no longer (if ever we did). So, trip after trip to the Salvation Army as we try to clear room to put art on the walls, carpets on the floors, clothes in dressers. You get the picture.

Now, the good news. In an effort to make way for replacement gear and to lighten the load of gear I don't need or intend to the use, the Salvation Army in Bladensburg, MD, on Kenilworth Avenue, has received from us loads of audio gear. It may take some time for the gear to appear on shelves, and I am told that the loot is distributed among several Salvation Army stores in the region. So, be on the lookout.

For what?

Conrad Johnson PV10AL preamp. Tube Depot mini tube amp. Knight KG75 power amp (needs some work, but very salvageable), and a vintage Knight stereo integrated. Three (and possibly four) ASL-1 monoblocs. A KT77 tube amp (from China, and quite nice). Musical Fidelity DAC. Musical Fidelity tube headphone amp, Magnum Dynalab MD90T (yes has DAC with tube) tuner. Yaesu FRG-7 shortwave receiver (nice piece, great condition). Sony five-disk CD/DCD changer. I think there's a JVC five-disk DVD player, too. Hsu 10 inch subwoofer and power amp. AMC tube power amp. Emotiva power amp. Pay of Dayton speakers (or are they Pioneer Andrew Jones smaller models). A couple of vintage electrostatic tweeters. Two Parts Express two-way crossovers. A microscope with USB (needs driver) Maybe a few more things.

 If I lived in the D.C. area I would be looking for that Yaesu FRG-7 ! That was nice of you to give away all that great gear to the Salvation Army.

 I am hopeful Salvation Army raises some real money. Their Lighthouse Center does good work.?

 As I start to plan systems rebuild, I am donating excess gear. Also, simplifying. Don't need CD changer. Rarely listen to broadcast FM and have really nice Sony HD tuner with excellent analog reception, too. Office system: no more speakers with separate tweeters and external crossover. Desktop Maggie system and small Class D amp and Schmitt Modi DAC more than sufficient No more separate preamp and power for office. U Turn orbit turntable vice older VPI Hw19 Jr. Trying to get to gear I really use the most.

I imagine others have gone through this process. Hope I don't get "donator's remorse.". I expect not.

 Or he could have sold it all through traditional avenues and donated several thousand dollars to the Salvation Army compared to the several hundred that this gear will now generate at typical SA prices. But that's obviously a lot of trouble and effort.

 We are told gear we give to Salvation Army may be available on eBay. If you see something that may have come from my collection, feel free to ask me about its condition. I want Salvation Army to do well. They do good work.

 I really did not expect to find anything, but I went to the Bladensburg Salvation Army. The only interesting audio gear I saw was a cosmetically challenged pair of Polk towers with built in active subwoofer, a cute little vintage Yamaha and a very overpriced pair of RadioShack Mach II's. Either it all got bough or it never hit the floor.

So as not to make the trip a loss, I went to the record section. It was almost all classical, and mostly mono. Most of what I found, I already had, but I did find some amazing jems. I found 3 stereo Mercury Living Presence records: Fredric Fennel conducting "Sound Off (SR90264) and "Marches for Orchestra (SR90271, and Paul Party conducting Vive La Marche (SR90211). I also found a shaded dog - Piatigorsky/Munch/Boston Symphony, Dvorak Chello Concherto (LSC-2490), a blueback -Katchen Conducting Brahms (C56158) an Everest os William Steinberg conduction the Pittsburg symphony - "A Commemoration Symphony" by Stephen Foster and "A Symphonic Story of Jerome Kern". All of the records are NM+! I also picked up the CD, The Who, Icon. All in all, for this day and age, an amazing haul. I am glad I went!

 Not sure how my gear will be sold - possibly via eBay and maybe through other Salvation Army stores in the area. The Polk and RS gear did not come from us.

 I have volunteered in thrift stores, and while I always stuck to the rules, many stores have employees running side businesses. I recommend that you talk to the manager if you are donating something valuable. It is not a guarantee, but it increases your odds. The Salvation Army's web selling is still in the development stage. I'll leave it it at that.

Thank you for leading me to some fantastic records. Also, I can't help but talking to people when I go to these out of the way places. I had some great conversations!
