Hi,

We have the choice of two new domain names to house the loonies around here:

1. AudioAsylum.com

2. theAsylums.com

The plan is to move the forums to the chosen new domain over the weekend. Please vote for your preference.

Do not worry about bookmarking a new location!

When the change is complete, the current pages will be replaced with a link to the new site. You can then bookmark the new url. Hopefully, this will be a smooth transistion.

Also, the server is scheduled to be down some time after 6PM Pacific time for about one hour on Friday (today). Backup power will be installed to allow for operation in the event on a power failure. If you have trouble reaching tonight, this is the reason.

Cheers!

Having Audio in the domain name will make the site pop up on random audio searches, won't it?

On the other hand, The "Asylums.com" name would invariably draw hits from non-audio wise-arses, and the result might be a lot more off-topic flames to monitor.

Rod, i do know that you donated the server to run this and we appreciate it, but who is footing the bill for the domain names and any expenses incurred to keep this site up and running ? If ANY help is needed in this area, please let us know. There is NO reason for YOU to have to foot the bills AND invest the time and labor for OUR enjoyment. It would be well worth a small investment on my part to make sure that i and others could enjoy this site. If we all pitched in, it would be next to NOTHING to operate. Sean

Thank you for the offer. The total cost to date is $70 for domain name registration and that includes the first 2 years of DNS service. As a business expense, it costs me all of $35. It's really no big deal. But if anyone really insists in making a contribtion, send it to:

Audio Asylum
PO Box 626
Vista, CA 92093

If any checks do in the mail, I'll open an account for this site and provide a full accounting.

In terms of keeping the site up and running, it is all volunteer. We have 10 folks that are doing the admin and moderation. Once a bit more code is in place, I think the participants and volunteers can run it quite easier so there is little burden on any one person.

If this does get *really* popular, then we may have to deal with traffic charges at some point. I don't see that happening any too soon, but I'll certainly let you know if it does.

Anyway, thanks for the offer and enjoy the site.

What are those two objects immediately beneath them? I would hazard a guess, but I'm sure that I'd be mistaken. It was certainly good for a chuckle. Is this just a variation on the Jack G classic?

Rod,

Thank you for your generosity and hospitality. It has been a relief for me to be on this site for the last week. It is a real breath of fresh air to have open dialog that feels much less threatening than whats flung about in AR. I really appreciate everyones comments, help, and kindness.

I hope that someday I can contribute to this board something of value equal to the information that I have taken from you all.
