My one month old CXC V2 started to skip/pause tonight. Pretty frustrating!!! The CD is very clean with no marks, etc. The CD that skipped/paused played fine on other players prior to this - so I'm thinking something is wrong or starting to go wrong. One thing I noticed from the beginning is that immediately after the drawer closes (with or without a disc) it makes a slight grinding noise from what sounds like inside the drawer for about 2 seconds. Normal?

Also - during the skip/pause I stopped - opened the drawer to inspect the disc then after closing the display went blank. Turned the unit off then on again and the display came back. It may just be a weird fluke but it's brand new so I'm looking into replacing it. Cambridge site claims warranty issues with retailer - sent message off to Music Direct so I'll wait to see what happens. Hopefully they'll offer to send a replacement.

I guess it's better something goes wrong now than several months after the 3 year warranty!

huh, sounds familiar

have you been pushing the tray in rather than using open / close?

I haven't touched the tray at all - I don't like the large remote so have been using the buttons on the face plate. I don't have the unit set to play after closing. Replaying the same CD that skipped/paused after was OK - so shouldn't be the CD played.

Have you tried other CDs?
Maybe this one has a defect you cannot see.

I've used several CD's prior to the skip/pause. After I opened/closed drawer the same CD track was played and it played through - so I don't know. What would cause the display to go blank - can a CD cause that?

Has me thinking of just returning it and using my old NAD.

I have a cxcv2 and have had no issues. I think you have a defecto unit;
grinding noises are never a good sign. Have the vendor send you a new
unit or a refund. Try the audiolab transport as a replacement.

Check that your power cable is firmly seated all the way. Wonky things can happen if voltage is fluctuating.

You can also try unplugging it altogether and let it reset itself for a few minutes. Then plug it in again.

With the internal static buildup during shipping, I would give it a few days.... Things often settle down after that.

I have a first gen CXC gathering dust due to the same problem. I had hopes the new units were better. No more Cambridge products for me.

I do remember the shipping box was slightly damaged - but not the Cambridge box. Didn't think much of it at the time but maybe it got dropped or something. No cost to return and get another to try it out. If this one fails then I'm done with Cambridge. Don't like slot loading of Audiolab and the Schitt player not available yet.
