Speaking of PS Audio, kudos on that Sunlight OS update

74.37.68.70

I just updated my Directstream Jr. to Sunlight, and was pleasantly surprised at the improvement in sound quality. It was very good before, but Sunlight seems to impart more of an analog quality to the sound. Very nice indeed.

I especially like the fact that I can implement such an upgrade at no cost, and without ever leaving the house. Nicely done, folks.

Do they allow you to down rev to an older version if the latest isn't to your liking? How many versions back can you go?

You can go back and forth between/among any of the 13 versions of the operating system software. The differences between adjacent in time versions may be subtle.

These are the different releases in chronological order:

1.1.5
1.1.6
1.1.7
1.1.9
1.2.1
Pikes Peak
Yale
Torreys
Huron
Redcloud
Snowmass
Windom
Sunlight

I've gone back and forth between the last few releases and while they all have their strong points the Sunlight release is the one I always return to.

I had no idea there were so many versions of the firmware. But yes, as long as you have the files on a USB flash drive, updating to the desired version is a simple process.

Good to know. Thanks!, posted on October 19, 2021 at 05:46:42

As you may know, some software installations do not allow you to down-rev and go back (only forward) so it's good to know that these versions for PS Audio allow you to go back.

I wasn't aware that some other operating systems weren't reversible but it makes sense with certain types of hardware.

The 13 for the DS DAC are it with Sunlight being the swan song. PS Audio is preparing to release a DS DAC Mark II I think by the end of the year that'll incorporate some changes like better parts quality. There's also supposed to be some super-duper, big bucks DAC in the offing.
