I have a Port connected to my system and stream using Tidal. The sound is very low (compared to CD/phono etc), and really mediocre at best. If I compare the same cuts from an album through Sonos then on my CDP, the CDP sound is noticeably better. Disappointing.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried streaming any local content from downloaded file or ripped CDs?

I get decent sound from the Sonos Connect, but it is coming off the digital out into my DAC.

Do you have a DAC you can try, or does your CD player have a digital input you can connect to?

I highly doubt that it's a Tidal issue. There's something going on with your Sonos Port, or whatever it's attached to. I run Tidal and Qobuz and they both sound comparable to my own CD rips in terms of audio level and quality.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, but I'm not very tech savvy. Not real sure what y'all are suggesting/asking. I'm running the Sonos Port into a Yamaha S-801 integrated. Does the power or quality of the amp affect the quality of the Sonos sound?

Looks like you Yammy has digital input, I'd try hooking up the digital out from the Sonos to that.

for systems or devices performing multiple roles is to isolate each part to determine the cause.

1. Play a different source like a digital file. You can use freeware like EAC to "rip" music from CDs.
2. Use the digital output to bypass the internal DAC.
3. Try different cables

connected a coax digital cable directly, and also upgraded my Tidal service. Now have excellent sound.
