I'm looking for a DAC (new or used) for under 300 dollars. I just need it to have toslink and / or coax inputs and a set of RCA outputs. I don't need it to function as a pre-amp or headphone amp. Any suggestions?

You can find these in your price range, however I would get a new one from here for an extra $99.....

Reputable seller with a great return policy, if it's not your cup of tea... I own two of them, and Really like them....

Are you needing just a 'cheap DAC' maybe for a TV or similar non-audiophile application? If so, there are several for under $100. See link for 'Cheap cheap DACs' below for just a few examples.

Or maybe you want something higher-end but new like a model from Schiit:

modi2 $100 - $250 depending on options:

Bitfrost but that will be $399:

Prices on these ranged from just under 200 to just over 300. I think I could live with any of them but I don't have enough knowledge of DAC's to know which I should consider and which I should avoid. Any help greatly appreciated.

Meridian Explorer 2 DAC
Schiit Modi Multibit DAC
Adcom GDA-600 DAC
Parasound ZDAC
NAD 1050 DAC
Schiit Bitfrost Uber 4490

My suggestion is to patiently wait and watch for someone selling a Bifrost Multibit. My impression is that people who have bought such in the past than want to upgrade to a their higher end DACs. I'm in that camp, but I'm keep mine and will add it to my Desktop computer audio system.

Stay away from the older discontinued models IMHO.
