Hi,
Did any of you get the new Music Direct catalog in the mail? It weighs about 4 pounds and might be a good coffee table item.I get one every year for zip and I can't recall any purchase from them. Is this a perk from subscribing to Stereophile or Absolute Sound?
Check out page 5.There is a beautiful turntable the Fender x Mofi. You pay 1000 dollars for a Fender guitar finish on a MoFi turntable.Would you guys or gals pay 1000 more for looks or 1000 bucks to upgrade the sound? Maybe just the looks will make it sound better in your head....it is beautiful though.
Here's another item on page 73. A dove tailed oak leather handled record rack. It's only 225 bucks or 299 in walnut. It's the exact same size as a milk crate. Here's an idea.Use a milk crate instead.I know you all must have two or three around your place and use the saved money to send a poor kid to summer camp.
It's a nice catalog though with great little reviews on lot's of classic records, old and new.
The JBL 100 and KLH Five were in there with a great presentation. What do you think?.....Take care...Mark Korda

Thank the Gods for a company that sends such an outstanding catalog thru the mail for zilch.

I wish Acoustic Sounds would do a large yearly catalog. If you have the Audio Advisor catalog from 15 years ago, you still have the current one LOL.

I wish the USPS didn't mangle my catalog, even though it was encased in a plastic bag, they managed to rip off the front cover and damage the first 23 pages.

They're good; Polk's owners now seem to have decided to take a stab at reinvigorating the Polk Audio name as one associated with very good sound at a reasonable price. I speak particularly of the "new" (ish) Reference EDIT: Reserve series. Their immediate predecessors, the Legend series, are quite good, but expensive and not as obviously a really good value (strictly IMO).

I even drank the Reference EDIT: Reserve Series koolaid and purchased a pair of the new R200s, albeit at a hefty discount. I do quite like them, FWIW.

I've been getting those in the mail for several years now. The thick mineral-filled paper and heavy ink and varnish make them really dense. They work nicely between speakers and stand tops, or on top of non-hot-running components with flimsy sheet steel cases.

You said Polk's Reference series. Did you intend to say Reserve series?

Need an affordable change of pace here.

Maybe even that rhythm and tempo thing.

Too.

I've bought several items from them, including the Marantz headphone amp/DAC I'm listening to right now--open box item at a good price. Very pleasant to deal with. I haven't gotten the catalog yet this year.

Reserve series (link below). I will go back and edit my original post. Thanks for catching that gaffe.

Nothin' against the Legend series -- they're just too rich for my blood (as at my house they're basically just toys).
I have been listening to the R200s quite a bit lately, though -- and, yes, via a monstrous (by my standards, that is) soiled-state amplifier. Actually, it's even worse than that -- it's a receiver. :-p

all the best,
mrh

Their customer service is excellent, as well. Several years ago I bought a refurbished Peachtree Audio integrated and when it arrived one channel was dead. When I called about it the rep apologized and immediately sent a replacement without my returning the defective one first. When that one arrived it was a new unit, not a refurb.

That would go with my tobacco burst (the other finishes were sold out) Gibson Les Paul 4 Reference 4" studio monitors which I use as desktop computer speakers. Bought them on clearance in late 2020.
