At the risk of unseemly self-promotion, I offer a link to my latest Hagerty column, even if only because I think I have gotten to the bottom of the music-biz legend that future Led Zep frontman Jimmy Page played in Rockabilly Eurobabe Françoise Hardy's "first" album.

What a concept.

Sad to say... "too good to fact-check."

But it seems Page played on a later album, as well as on two of Johnny Hallyday's UK releases.

I do want to point out to the incurious who will not click over, that Françoise Hardy brought Rockabilly--in French--to Europe, months before the Beatles released their first album.

AFAIK, Mlle Hardy is still alive; Johnny Hallyday died 2017, never having left the stage from the time he was a 13-year old Franco-Belgian Elvis imitator. Hallyday's 79 or so albums averaged 1 million copies each.

Requiem Aeternam to him.

PS: I have to agree with Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Mick Jagger: Mlle. Hardy was one of the most beautiful women of all time.

He played on LOTS of other peoples' records, probably uncredited on many of them.

Joel Najman on Vermont Public Radio did an hour-long program last week on Jimmy Page's studio work. When Donovan went electric, he brought Page with him (so to speak) -- and Page plays gee-tar (credited as "lead") on the 'OO's I Can't Explain. Page has been quoted as saying, in essence, he didn't know why he was even there with Townshend's playing.

Oh, and he's strumming (if memory serves) acoustic rhythm guitar on Pet Clark's Downtown (now possibly scarred forever after the Christmas Day events in Music City, USA).

all the best,
mrh

Famous bootleg floating around for years and expanded to an insane 8 CD set by the Japanese.

At the link.

Also a short list from RS.

JP Jones was a popular session guy pre Zep too.

Pics of Françoise Hardy keep appearing in my Pinterest email notifications.

You know what that must mean.
