I'm on the market for a new digital camera and came upon the site below.

I was really impressed with the thoroughness and clarity of this review. It made relevant comparisons among competing products and clearly illustrated the differences. I understand it is more difficult to illustrate differences in sound versus visual images but I wish the audio reviews could be more like this.

No offense, but it looks too much like an owner's manual., posted on June 1, 2004 at 18:26:13
As imperfect as it may or may not be, I like the review process the way it is. There are some awfully talented writers out there, and I enjoy reading their work. There is much more to audio than a bunch of specs.

The end of the review is a series of images illustrating the advantages and drawbacks of each of the three competitive cameras. Also included is commentary regarding grip feel, boot up speed, and user interface. What works and what is annoying.

Phil Askey is considered one of the very best reviewers for digital photography products..., posted on June 2, 2004 at 10:51:28

And if you read the review all the way through, you would realize he's absolutely thorough about every single aspect of testing.
Like an owners manual?! Read the whole thing. He usually posts 18-20 sections, including noise (the audio equivalents are "grain" and "noise floor"), lines of vertical/horizontal height, etc.
Most of us photographers respect his opinion more than HP's or JV's in audio.
I think perhaps you didn't read the whole review or else you simply don't understand how digital camera specs and how they are measured.

Then perhaps you're right....., posted on June 2, 2004 at 12:40:25
it's too apples and oranges for me.

Phil usually does a very good job with his reviews, and dpreview in general is a very good source for info like this, as is steve's digicams. IMHO, the best reviewer for photographic equipment is Michael Reichmann at www.luminous-landscape.com. He doesn't rehash specs but rather tells you how these things work in a real working situation...
