Hi,

Has Mtrycraft been around yet? Uh oh... Briefly, this December past
I began to build a decent mass market HT setup. I run a 16 screen
theatre here in Miami but usually am too tired to go back to work on a
day off and watch something. I've had some original Kimber and Sonic
Puritys in my 14 yr STEREO rig, so whether it's the placebo effect, or
better sound, I've been a practioner of "better cables, better sound."

I figured I'd get good cables for the DVD and DTS processor that I
bought and I've also begun revamping my STEREO using GT tube stuff, but I've been able to purchase, at roughly 50%+ off retail, these silver
cables. I am currently running a pair of Kimber KCAGs between my Hafler
amp and GT SEP1 SE. When the new GT amp get's installed I plan to do
some swapping out with a pair of Nordost Red Dawns and a pair of D. Linn's
Silver Audio's Silver Bullets 4.0, which are in route as we speak.

I'm fairly ignorant as to vocabulary and discerning the subtlies in
sound due to cables, and it might just be that the Hafler stuff just isn't
that revealing. Hopefully I can give you some ideas on sonic qualities
in a week or so.

The main point of my post is to suggest that whatever cable you
choose, look for them used. One can't really damage them too badly. I
got my 1.5m KCAGs for $360 delivered ($610), 1m Red Dawns for $210 ($400)
and the Silver Bullets for $130 ($225). There have been others as well,
but you're asking about silver. I also have a bead on some Siltech silver
ST-38s for $375 a pair and they retail for over $700, however I still need
a rack and I'm ordering the Ah! Tjoeb '99 cdp today and I can't afford to
keep going beserk.

Good luck and buy used, Chris

Heres three options for you. Sorry I couldn't think of more.

1) Harmonic Tech. ProSilway MKII is great interconnect.

2) Check out some audio rags like Positive Feedback for ads placed by people who make custom silver cables or sell kits to DIYers. This could be an affordable way to introduce silver in to the system and get value for $$$.

3) TG Audio now has silver cables and I recently ordered his speaker cables but have not received them yet - you see - because he burns them in for a month after the order is placed and the cables built. Shit man. What a nice guy.

Remember, depending on YOUR system balance, be careful where you put the silver. Interconnect? Speaker cable? Both? Depends. Make sure you have some copper around just in case things get to lean. If you have tubes or something, putting some silver in to the system could be a big and very likeable improvement. Good luck with the silver prospecting.

SS now, but will add tubes later in line level stuff (nt), posted on July 7, 1999 at 12:44:26

I agree with bryan, the Pro-Silway Mk II's are great!, posted on July 8, 1999 at 03:32:36
The Harmonic Technology Pro-Silway Mk II's did very nice things in my system (Accuphase DP-65V, C-265, and P-550; Eminent Technology LFT-VIIIA's). The ET's have a rather soft or laid-back upper treble, and the Pro-Silway Mk II's really helped to open up the top end -- more air and sparkle, but absolutely no hardness, grunge, or glare. The midrange is also glorious -- transparent, detailed, and incredibly deep, with amazingly natural reproduction of voices and harmonic textures. Since HT has a 30-day return policy, it can't hurt to give them a listen!

I'm another big fan of the MkII's. Two other people that I constantly harassed and cajoled into buying them, started talking to me again after hearing the improvements in their systems. Seriously good stuff.
