Guys, while trying to pull the plug out the ground pin just stayed stuck in the outlet. This is a Vintage Audio Lab's (China, ebay) product I bought here second hand (one of the reasons I never buy used). Now the question is what to do. The power cable itself is nothing special, 12 ga, regular eastern cable of the unknown origin, they claim it to be OCC, which is not, with replica crappy plugs. I paid $100, don't even care for it to be honest.

Can anybody tell me how much in average the replacement plug could be? thinking about cheapest Wattgate. If it's going to be expensive, it isn't worth the trouble to waste a time on this thing, and I just throw it in the garbage.

What do you think?

the hospital grade plugs at the link give more than satisfactory results over boutique offerings ... someone will be along shortly to deny this, but for the money you won't be shocked if you install them correctly

good luck!

you are welcome ...

hospital grade was in use for years because of the superior 'grip' and damping of the form factor

good luck!

The particular carbon fiber shell (which is excellent) will fit the connector body of Tiawanese AC plugs available in the audiophile marketplace.

If you seek an inexpensive option, an MPS or Wattgate (of which Taiwanese AC connectors tend to be based on) will fit into the carbon fiber shell.

Don't toss it into the trash; it's a valuable item.

After speaking with my tech, I decided not to go with repair, considering his job, plug and shipping cost, it's a complete waste of money. I guess I can use it as a two-prong plug if needed...

Ask your tech how much he would charge for this simple task:

The particular AC plug shell features a strain relief mechanism with a compression collet that can be loosened with your fingers. Very easy.

Remove the two screws on the face of the AC plug. Pull the shell back onto the jacket of the power cord to expose the wiring of the AC plug.

Use an old scrap of 18 AWG wire to build a 6 inch ground wire with it. Run the wire through the back of the shell until it reaches the AC plug.

Loosen the ground wire termination screw and stick one end of the wire into the termination slot and tighten it. Re-fasten the the two screws on the face of the AC plug, and tighten the strain relief collet.

As a result, you'll have a short length of ground wire sticking out of the back of the AC plug to connect to the screw that mounts the AC outlet wall plate which is connected to ground.

Terminate the ground wire with a tiny spade to be attached to the wall plate mounting screw while the power cord is plugged into the AC outlet.

A bit fiddly, but safe. If the fee is more than 10 bucks, find a more reasonable-minded tech for the job.

Cheers, Duster
